Hello all, I have a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport that I purchased a Aries 2054 grille guard for. It says I need to remove the skid plate and leave it off. My question is, do i really need the skid plate? I don't do any off roading or rock climbing, just the occasional dirt road to get to a camping spot and maybe driving through 8" of snow every once in a while when it storms. This guard looks really cool but I also don't want to damage anything underneath.
    Thanks

I have a ranch hand on mine and go offroad some and have never had any issues, granted I'm not rock crawling... I would go for it

I took mine off 2 years ago. Like you, I don't go rock crawling, just gravel roads and some light off-roading once in a while. There is a lighter plate under the heavy skid plate, so there shouldn't really be an issue.

Thanks, I will probably end up installing it regardless but just wanted some opinions on it. Too much of a hassle to ship this thing back I think.

Yes it's the factory metal skid plate. Not the aluminum one. That makes me leary that yours dented because what would it have damaged if it was removed.

Thanks! I have mine basically to deflect branches and the like from overhanging trees, and bushes on the very unimproved road I live on. Also, a good place to mount my light bar and driving lights.

I was just joking, but have since added a 1/4" steel skid. ;)
