Use Plastidip. It looks great. apply 2 thin coats then a heavy coat.

Dip it or duplicolor. I dipped mine, looks decent and has help up well.

Or you can buy a color matched for around $185 from camalbaktoyota

I've seen some who have actually painted theirs, instead of dip. Sounds like a more permanent, maintenance free option, imo.
I can't remember what paint they used.... I'll do a search and report back.

I used a krylon gloss paint. I prefer it over the look of plastidip.

Just any duplicolor? There's the removable stuff, the permanent stuff, the bedliner type material...

Buy a color matched one. Paint will flake off sooner that you think.

I did a couple coats of flat black krylon and a few coats of clear. It looks like it came factory. I had it dipped at first along with the chrome bumper. It started to pull off after two weeks when I dried my truck.tmp_19844-20160515_150326860489770.jpg

I myself don't think I will use plasti dip. It literally says in the marketing description. Easy to remove. So while it may hold up for a bit, I don't see how it would last.

I might just fork over the 185 or find donesome good paint.

Why pay to replace it when you could just paint the one you have? Are you afraid one day you'll want to go back to the chrome grill? If anything, dip it and make sure you like it. After a few weeks take the dip off and make it permanent. That's just my .02 though.

I dipped my emblems, grille, bumper valence and b pillar. All have held up very well. Emblems and grille are going on 3 years now. Valence and b pillars are 8 months and holding up great.

I did my rear bumper caps in plasti dip based off all I have read and others suggestions. I usually prep and paint things of this nature...wish I would have gone that route. I used two cans on the end caps and it is chipping everywhere. Not only that, it did not lay on smooth. I'm not a plasti dip fan, I say prep, prime, paint, then follow with clear (all rattle cans). You'll be amazed at the out come if you take your time.

If you want to use spray paint I found it best to use adhesion promoter to prep the surface. Painted over it with black krylon, looks like it came from the factory.

I used black Plastidip on my Chrome grille. Bugs have put a few dings in it. Other than that absolutely zero pealing in a year's time.

Regular spray paint may not adhere to the chrome. Plastidip clings to anything. If you want to use regular paint get ready for a lot of prep time. That chrome won't sand down very well.

+1. As someone who's used both paint and plastidip on the truck, go with plastidip. I used gloss black Krylon to paint over the chrome grill, and though it did appear of OEM quality, it chips away from all of the road debris over time. I just ordered the black plastidip and their glossifier to get the desired look. 100% confident that'll work based on my experience with plastidipping the alloys and emblems. You live and you learn.

Maybe this is a completely stupid question so forgive me...

Why not powder coat it? Wouldn't that be more permanent and avoid some of the paint chips mentioned? And I'm asking here since I don't know much about powder coating but trying to do some more research into it.

    Thanks :)
