I thought about that too, but figured even if the truck was parked, the rising heat would be exposed to the grill opening allowing some cooling to occur.

That too, but it seems most of the scenarios are happened in a garage, so not much circulation of air I would think. I used to build plastic models, and the deformed area just reminds me of how I use the heat gun slowly soften the hard plastic.

To be honest, i'm not sure. All I can tell you is that the garage in question that I park in is multi-level and open air.

I'm pleased and very fortunate that Toyota and my dealer are replacing the grill surround under warranty. Not overreacting to the situation but I am disappointed and somewhat angry that I even have to deal with this, especially since I don't even need a truck but always wanted one. Don't get me wrong, overall I do like the truck but am considering replacing it with the newly restyled 2018/2019 Jeep Wrangler, when it comes out. With less than 7K miles on my new truck, I shouldn't have to deal with cheap plastics deforming while the truck is parked and no rough and tough treatment on my behalf. I understand and fully expect many here will trash me for getting rid of my new truck over this matter. And yes I hate to use this cliche, but it's the principal of this matter. Plus the uneasy feeling I can't help but have wondering if and when this will happen again. I shouldn't have to change my life to accommodate where and how I park this truck to prevent this from happening again, on the contrary this $40K+ truck should accommodate me and my lifestyle.

Of course you do know there's a higher chance the Jeep will let you down in more ways than this truck, right? Not being a dick, just sayin... I, too was pissed after the rear diff recall debacle. I bitched at Toyota - anybody that would listen. I rather enjoyed it, but I'm strange that way. Its your money, but that Jeep plan seems flawed to me.

In all honesty I am a sports car guy who gets a new sports car every 15K miles or so. Unfortunately the sports cars I purchase are expensive. I don't need a truck although I do need a daily driver and I'd like that daily driver to be off road capable as in being a true 4X4. The max I'm willing to spend on a daily driver is $45K.

I fully expected others to feel that way and totally respect how you guys feel regarding my reaction to this. What about if and when this happens again? I know it's only a possibility and merely a concern in my mind but I was not expecting this to happen in the first place and there's no guarantee that this will not happen again.

If it happens again, you will get it replaced under warranty again. :)

The TacomaWorld members are a fraction of Tacoma owners. Two here have had it happen so surely there are more out there. So my guess is Toyota knows about this, but it probably isn't at a scale they need to fess up to a flaw (if that's what it is). So warranty fixes work for now. Who knows, maybe the replacement part has been reworked/strengthened in response to identical complaints.

If all you need is a 4WD car there's always a Lesburu out there. I read somewhere the first aid kit has "feminine napkins" in it.

I appreciate the part of your comment that was intelligent and somewhat optimistic but refuse to be dragged into the negative connotations(the later part of your post) that this forum is infamous for. I've already posted my thoughts on consciously posting and adding negative comments to a thread. I will never understand that but to each his own. I will never officially ignore another member and will continually support their right to say and or post anything they choose. For the record I will never post a negative connotation to a thread. It's obvious the only reason anyone does that is to make themselves feel superior, but they fail to realize that is merely a feeling they may have and has nothing to do with reality.

Your crazy if you think a Jeep of any model or year is not going to have issues worse than plastic problems

Don't get 4x4 and AWD confused.

I thought the exact same thing but didn't bother correcting the poster. But yes sir you are correct, AWD does not equate to or even come close to the off-road prowess of a true 4X4 vehicle. The poster who recommended an AWD vehicle to replace a 4WD vehicle was obviously practicing their trolling abilities and nothing more. Thanks again for chiming in with intelligent repartee, it's appreciated.

You are more than likely correct. I'm just perturbed and venting. Again don't get me wrong, I do like my truck but am disappointed and not looking forward to having to deal with this particular issue again.

Thanks for the positive reassurance. I'll take the advice from you and the other members and be more optimistic.;)
