Heads up, they're better hot and fast versus smoked.

To each there own  being on the west coast, I've cooked so many tri tips over the last 30 years. I like them but they aren't the end all be all for me either.

how do you tri tips hot and fast? Indirect heat at what grill temp to what meat temp?

I smoked one once and wasn’t over the moon with it.

Took the family camping this weekend and had some good meals. We had cheddar and bacon brats one night.

We had eggs and bacon in the mornings

And of course I failed to take a photo of the sirloins we cooked over the wood fire. But I did snap a photo of our grilled burgers last night after we got home.

I treat them like a steak. Indirect to 115 then reverse sear to 120-125 MR. You can still add smoke wood to charcoal if preferred.

Wouldn't you do them like any other steak? High direct heat for 2 minutes a side.

I put them on the gasser. Direct heat until it reaches 115-120 and then let it rest for 10 minutes.

I think I’ll try this. I like to reverse sear cowboy style directly in the hot coals of Jealous Devil.

I reverse sear most my steaks. I like that for rib eyes and NYs.

Tri tip last night with grilled peppers, zucchini and yellow squash.Tater tots, cause why not? Came to temp faster than expected so I didn't have time for a good sear. Tri tip salad tonight, maybe tri tip chili tomorrow night.
