You 3rd Gen guys can be really helpful. Obviously the OP is new to manuals.

OP you're fine, keep practicing, don't try to shift quickly until you're comfortable with the clutch and where it engages and disengages.

I grinded a few times before. Then I married my 23rd instance of it.

Edit: sorry misunderstood the grind part. You’re fine

If you intentionally hold the shifter and hear grinding while trying to force the transmission into a gear for a LONG period of time SURE you are going to trash your synchros and fuck the transmission up.

If it is just a quick OOPS, dont worry about it.

I bought the lifetime power train warranty.

Sometimes i shift without the clutch.

    Sometimes i grind it.

My clutch has no warranty, my transmission does.

    I don't care.

At the few autocrosses I went to they always just laughed and said "grind me a pound" when someone crunched gears. Probably no big deal. Everyone does it here and there. My current ('18) Taco is the very first automatic I've ever owned and I still push that imaginary clutch in from time to time. My previous truck - a '93 with 300K on the odo when I sold it was probably shifted up and down about 75% of the time with no clutch and ground the gears maybe three times in 25 years. Many days the only time I used the clutch was at a stop. Never a problem even with the tranny, and, yes, you can easily and safely shift up or down if you know how to do it, but you have to know how.
