Welp, no luck... The shop replaced the bad bushings but did not fix the grinding sound. Super frustrating as I just dropped a ton of money to get something fixed that didn't actually solve my initial problem. Now, I am in a tough spot, as the noise continues to annoy the s*** out of me but the shop has no idea what it is. You would think a suspension shop would be able to fix it.

Edit: The one thing they did tell me is that it is completely safe to drive on to their standards. I suppose unable to find the problem = no problem

New finding as of today... After weeks of trying to produce this noise, I realized something: I am 90% sure it only happens when my brakes are being pressed. I tested this by coming to a stop, hearing creaks, putting the car in neutral, then turning the wheel again. When I go from drive to neutral (i.e. release the brakes), the creaking stops.

You'd think I would have noticed this earlier... I suppose I never thought to try it with no brakes because I had to come to a stop to make the noise.

Any ideas on what this could mean are greatly appreciated. I think there's a chance it could be the brakes themselves creaking under tension.

Sorry this didn't fix your problem. OTOH a moving rack is a big problem so I'm glad you took care of that.

Hmmm...I guess I'd start with a clean/service/lube? Might be cheapest to just have the dealership do a quick brake inspection.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I'll see what I can do on my own and then bring it to someone else if I have no luck. I am determined to get this fixed!

Did you make sure all major suspension bolts are tightened properly? Had some similar sounds when an alignment tech forgot to snug my lca cam bolts after an alignment. For starters I would get some cheap 99 cent store degreaser and go to town on any major grease and give your suspension a good visual inspection. As mentioned before, getting a cheap go pro knock off from Amazon and putting it on various spots on your suspension and try to get closer to the sound source will help a lot.

I’d get familiar with these guys if driving a 20 year old truck is going to be in your future for much longer:

I had this exact noise after getting an alignment and going off roading the same weekend. I torqued my LCA bolts and the body mount bolts and the issue is now resolved.

"Dealer" and "cheap" o_O Just pop the wheels off and have a look- should be obvious if there is an issue.

If you're LCA bolts were loose after an alignment, and then off roading, a) probably out of alignment, b) don't take the truck back to a shop who can't correctly torque bolts.

IMG_1425.jpg There’s definitely something amiss with this LBJ. The dust cover should cover the rubber boot.
