Just purchased my 2002 2.4 regular cab 5 lug auto about a month ago. So far its been a good truck, i use it for my pool service compny, she takes me from a to b no problem. When I test drove it had the grinding noise, the previous owner said he heard the noise too but has been driving good so he didnt care for it, he owned the taco for 2 years... It drives fine, accelerates fine, turns fine, Its the noise that bothers me a bit. Ive heard it before on a nissan frontier that a friend had but he didnt care for it. Anyways, it goes on when I accelerate, and becomes louder if i accelerate more... heres the video and pics of my truck any help is appreciated. Couldnt upload video so heres the youtube link https://youtube.com/shorts/_GkW1Ng_pBU?feature=share

I can't really pick out any grinding noises in that video, at least not on my laptop. Any idea what direction the sound is coming from? Can you feel any vibrations along with it?

Oooh that. Magic 8 ball says exhaust leak. I'd look over the exhaust manifold for cracks, and then maybe look at connections on the exhaust for black spots where it could be leaking.

exhaust/header is on the passenger side though, not under your foot

I listened to the video but with the road noise I can't pick up any "grinding" but it sounds like suspension noise

have you checked all your motor, trans, driveline mounts? how are the shocks?

worst case, turn up the radio a bit :D

its like a slurp noise... but i meant to say its under the truck somewhere... but i can say its not a suspension issue because when i accelerate with the truck being on park the "slurp" noise gets louder too

Just found out my truck has aftermarket headers (I THINK) . maybe previous owner didnt have the gasket seated correctly or gases getting out the flange

I think those are the upgraded 01-04 headers

as for the slurping sound, can you have someone hit the gas while you are around/under the truck to see if you can pinpoint the noise? how's the trans fluid look?

not ruling out exhaust leak but it may help you narrow down where it is. FWIW it's usually a "hissing" kind of sound when I had an exhaust leak
