Hey guys, I have this annoying noise when I turn my truck. It sounds like the tire is rubbing on the wheel well but there is no signs of it on the wheel well but there it looks like it is rubbing on the springs instead. I was told my steering rack might of bent but I'm not sure have any of you guys had this problem before, or know how to fix it? it has started to affect my driver side tire, the whole inside of my tire is bald. I need this fixed as soon as possible. Please help me I'm sad for my truck and want to fix her. She is all stock

OP, do recall hitting anything with that side of the truck? Pothole, curb or very rough RR crossing? It sounds like your toe-in's been affected. If you're not able to easily determine where the problem is it's best to take it to a reputable front end shop and let them take a look. There could be something that may fail while driving. Best get it looked at ASAP.

An alignment sounds like the best place to start.

@syswalla It has always had a little grind when I first got the truck, but awhile ago while I was driving the ball joints broke on both side cause the truck to hit the ground with great force I replaced ball joints, brake lines, tie rods, rotors, steering knuckle (snapped on passenger side), and had to get one new tire because it got wedged under the truck and shredded it. body damage it fucked up the passenger quarter panel. but that is why I was told my steering rack could be bent from that. after that incident it's been really bad. I just want to be able to drive my truck more often then just to work.

Wow, that's a very serious incident to have happen to your truck. I'm glad you're OK. It could have ended up much worse than just the damage to your truck.

That said, with as much relatively catastrophic damage having occurred there could be something wrong that was overlooked. It would not be out of the question to have bent the steering rack or control arms. I still say it's best to take it to someone that's qualified to look at it. The only thing TW is going to provide is conjecture that may not get you much closer to solving the actual problem.

@syswalla Thank you, and I was just seeing if i could get any input about it. because my bosses f-150 has the same problem as my truck, tire sounds like it is grinding but nothing bad has happened to his truck like mine so it just peaked my curiosity about it, to see if it was a common thing in truck that is an easy fix. I'm still new to the car world and everything this is my first truck and I'm only 20 still got a lot of learning to do. I want to class 7 my truck after I buy my new tacoma :)

I think you need to find a different alignment shop. How are you going to find out what is bent without it on the alignment machine.

I don't think the rack is bad. There are parts attached to the rack that are supposed to fail before the rack gets broke. Again, an alignment shop can get pointed in the right direction.

I'm betting you have a bent inner tie rod. You can't tell until the bellows are pulled back.

I appreciate that you want to learn. Good on you.

The next step would be a frame shop. They can tell you what is really wrong.

I know you want yo save money, but there are things that you just have to pay for. We don't have all the answers. Just pay real close attention to what they find and tell you.

I started the exact same way. All educations cost money, no matter who you pay to.

All my Toyota's were wrecked trucks and I bought at action and had to put back together. I've been doing it for 20 years. There is still things I have to pay others to do. I learned from all them. Because I like driving what others will write off, I haven't had a car payment in 10 years.
