Grinding sound when turning

2013 Scion FR-S Whiteout

My friend has a 1997 Mits Eclipse with the 2.0. Her serpentine belt came off a few weeks ago and her friend told her he fixed. She went to start it today and it makes a grinding sound upon starting and turn both directions but not going straight. She said she has never had power steering since she got the car but that it has never made this sound either till just now. Im here in Alaska so I dont know exactly what the grinding or squeaking sound sounds like cuz she had me listen over the phone but it sounded metallic to me.

Any ideas guys?
