I don't have to go offroading when getting groceries. Over here they actually pave the roads.

No you dont have to go offroading on trips to the market, but no one's saying you can't go offroading either.

Haven't lost anything yet in 15 years doing that. All in a Tacoma.

The bed mat would add grip. To keep the bags from sliding around so much.
The abnormal shape is a good question. My view on it is that it takes up less room when not extended out.

While it may do that, that really just gives you two little pockets of space, so I'm still left wondering.

Preventing the bags to slide all over. Composite bed is slippery as hell. OEM rubber mat solve 90% of the problem. A divider as shown in post #13 take care of the other 10%, i.e. hard braking.

I agree with you completely on the bed extender. After some research I have found a bunch that are rectangular and not circular.ive been debating on buying one of these sense 2013 and still haven't.

This is actually one of the reasons that I got KB Voodoo's "cargo management system".

But if you have a bed cover then it can't be used...

I saw one recently that was a dirt bike ramp, and doubled as a rectangular bed extender. If I rode a dirt bike it would be a no brainer. Other than that if I needed one I'd try to build or buy a square one. If you haven't needed it since 13 maybe you don't need it? Or have you found yourself wishing you had it?

I've found myself wishing I had it a few times. But only for groceries... Haven't needed it for anything else... I've found myself wishing I had a cover more than anything. But I have a Yakima basket that goes over my bed. So I need a cover that I can screw my basket into without damaging the bed cover. Cause it gets heavy (with the spare tire, bike racks, snowboard racks, axe/shovel/ hi lift) I finally found one by truck covers USA it's a slide out like the retrax but it's gonna cost me $2,400 to get. But if I get that I lose the ability of my bed cleats :-(

All of this complication over bags of groceries is really.. mind boggling.

Sounds like you may need a shell or roof rack if you want coverage, cleat usage, and storage?

Yep but I'm trying to avoid the roof rack. I have thought about getting a hard top cover but then I can't load some of my bigger items back there. That's why the trifold is ideal! Just not for my rack. im gonna go to a couple rack/bed cover stores we got in my area and see who can pitch me the best idea.

How about analyzing "every time I see my truck I remember it isn't a car and doesn't have a trunk."

    Obviously. It's a truck.

Don't want groceries going everywhere? Tie the bags closed if they're plastic. If they're paper, you use the wrong bags. Buy reusable bags and tie them instead. No groceries to slide everywhere. Get a cargo bar. Get a bed extender and use it as a separate compartment. Get a milk crate.

If you need a trunk, get a shell. Get a tonneau. Get anything that makes the bed a storage space instead of a truck bed.

If you can't do any of that then go buy an a Accord.
