does my ground from the battery to the sidewall have to be the one that came in the truck, or can i just make another hole to mount it?

    You can make another one.
But it needs to tie to the body.
That’s the main body ground for body.

There is usually an engine ground on the back of one of the cylinder heads and is also tied to the body. So, you definitely need the ground to be good.

Yeah bad grounds and vacuum leaks plague these when they get old.....

Keeping with my over kill ways.....did high temp silicone on the hoses..

And for ground I slipped a braided cable into plastic tubing and ran a ground directly from neg post to computer mount on intake plenum......
.....there's two cylinders firing simultaneously off that ground.....
