here is another serious theory. disconnect the plug to the tb. then check the resistance. Is the resistance infinite? then check voltage to the tb with the plug plugged in and no ground strap. if there is voltage there could be a reasoning that it is isolated. maybe, the resistance you are measuring is the motor source is shorted to the case for some reason and toyota designed the TB to be isolated so it doesnt matter. but if you ground it you could be grounding the voltage source and destroying the actuator motor and actually putting a load on the electrical system...

I know folks talk about how much better the filter medium is in the OEM ones.

not that the medium is better but there is alot more of it. a while ago there was a test in popular mechanics and they said that the oil filters in toyotas filter down to something crazy like 1 micron with the same flow as a 3 micron filter

the only downfall is when your ear touches the positive terminal and your right nipple touches the negative.....but you get used to it after a few oil changes. damn deep cycles pack a punch though

That's an interesting theory, however you can't check the voltage while the plug is connected to the TB, and once you disconnected you've deconstructed the circuit.

Also, I don't think that toyota's choice of using plastic intake manifolds was because they wanted to isolate the metal TB.

You can, you just have to backprobe the plug.

No worries, I've been neg repp'd for actually answering people's questions before

not sure about the second half of what you said, but testing it with the harness plug disconnected is a good idea

It's insulated on the back though, or I would have tried that, I'd have to put something against the prongs as I plug it in or strip the wire back.

You can actually see the insulation on the back of the plug where the wire enters it on the picture I posted earlier, just FYI.

Push the probe through the insulation essentially parallel with the wire. I use sewing T-pins when I need to probe plugs.

All this talk of probing makes me feel dirty... I need a shower.

i dont think so either.... its a suppppeeeeerrrr long shot as to any remote tiny explaination to why the ground would matter on the throttle body...

you can check the voltage just by putting the positive of your meter to the tb and the negative to the battery or another ground to see if there is any stray voltage actually traveling to ground (of course you need to take the ground that you put on, off to test this). if there isnt any voltage that just proves my reasoning even more to why grounding the tb doesnt do anything

EDIT: i forgot to say check the votage of the tb to ground with the truck running
