They're getting retorqued Friday night. It's only had about 300 miles put on it since everything was done. I am getting between 15.5 and almost 18 MPG.. not bad considering the extra weight & size of the tires. :D

Finally installed my leaf springs yesterday. Went ALOT easier then i expected. Took about 2.5 hours. No issues. Axle wrap is gone. Yipee..... Will be doing my buddies truck soon. Both DC's. Both 4 packs.

While i was at it i also replaced all my accesory belts, fuel pump and spark plugs. Adjusted the emergency brake too. My truck's feeling good.....

Anyone else have squeaky leafs? Just wondering if I'm alone here...I would feel better if I knew that I wasn't.

    :woot:

Yes, axle wrap is gone! It is so nice to feel the power going straight to the rubber! Startgin from 1st at a dead stop is sooooo much better. But I got the 5-packs, so I am glad to hear the 4 packs helped, too! Did you do anything else suspension-wise? Coils? Shocks?

Nope. Could not aford anything else. No squeeks but then i have all of 60 miles on it so far. Only thing i regret is not measuring the rear end prior to the swap. Not sure how much of a lift was put in. Does not look like much.

The 4 pack should've put you back to near stock height, maybe a little taller until they settle out. :D

    Bilstein 5100's / OME 881's / Wheelers 5 leaf pack / Level8 MK6/ 265/75-16 Bridgestone Dueler tires
Finally, got it done and got some pics and measurements. Thanks to Dan at Wheelers and ScoCar for setting up the leaf group buy which got this whole process started.

Started with a 2001 Xtra Cab 4x4 v6 TRD Tacoma, all factory suspension with 85k. I don't think it led a hard life previous to me recently picking it up, but the leafs and shocks were tired.

I picked up the 5 leaf pack, 881 OME coils and Bilstein 5100's all around. I also picked up the brake proportioning valve bracket, exhaust drop bracket and new U bolts. I did purchase the diff drop kit, but ended up having no need for it. Although it drove smooth after the install, I still had an alignment done. Retorqued everything after 200 miles.

I also added new ProComp 1069 wheels, Michelin LTX tires, 265-75/16 and new lug nuts, lug locks.

The only issues I had: had to cut the rear leaf front hanger bolts and Ubolts off as it was easier than to deal with the corrosion. On the ProComp wheels, I had to do some modification of the center caps to fit; they just didn't want to fit over the factory Toyota hub ridge.

I didn't want a full 3" lift, somewhere between 1.5-2" is what I wanted and it worked out exactly as expected.

Measurements are from the ground to the middle-bottom of the factory TRD flares:

    Initial dimensions:
    Front Right 35 1/8"
    Front Left 35"
    Rear Right 36"
    Rear Left 35 5/8"
    IMG_0224_061a552248cd1729a4a9f78612c8c58458c51800.jpg

Dimension after lift, but with original wheels after 100 miles
    Front Right 37 1/4"
    Front Left 37"
    Rear Right 37 3/4"
    Rear Left 37 1/2"
    IMG_0241_9dedff6ba8e01650c3e01d2fda3b5c55f7d7c672.jpg

Dimension after lift and new tires and wheels
    Front Right 37 5/8"
    Front Left 37 1/2"
    Rear Right 38 1/8
    Rear Left 37 7/8"

Hey guys, hope you are all still subbed here...just a word of warning...

Go out and check the bolts on your ball joints
. I'm not 100% sure if it had anything to do with the install of the front shocks but I was driving around last night with only 1 bolt holding the ball joint together on my passenger side, the others fell out at some point. I was lucky to still have that one holding on and had the good sense to stop and call a tow truck. So save yourself the trouble (and possible damage) that I had to go through last night and check your trucks out right away!

HO-LEE CRAP! Man, are you lucky you caught that!

I am assuming you mean lower ball joint, right? I actually just got the recall done on mine abouta month ago—the 01s (and maybe some 02s?) had a batch of faulty LBJs, so mine is all squared away.

I am so happy you caught that before it bit you hard on the higway or the Middle of Nowhere, MT!

    So what made you look?

I looked because I was having to hold the steering wheel 1/4 turn to the left to drive straight, I lined up the wheel and got out to inspect and noticed that the passenger side tire was kicked out at an angle, driver side was striaght...and once I was on pavement and not dirt there was a grinding noise.
This is what it looked like last night...supposed to be a bolt in there somewhere...

Glad I stopped when I did, could have been so much worse. Truck is at the shop now. Hoping they can just throw some new bolts in there but I will most likely be replacing the joints on both sides soon just for peace of mind. No recall that I'm aware of on my year either.

oh, and I was in the middle of no where...limped down 7 miles of dirt and then another few miles to get within cell range to call a tow truck...

Did the installers put new ball joints on yours or something? I don't see how just putting new shocks and springs could mess with the ball joints.

I was just figuring, with the lift from the new shocks and coils, everything is sitting at a slightly different angle. Different angle, different pressure points, etc. can cause added stress to older parts. Not sure what happened really...just a theory.

Its all fixed now, four shiny new bolts keeping things together. The mechanic said the last bolt was bent, wouldn't have lasted much longer.

Man, I was going to say maybe it was just from years of severe vibration and rattling on rough roads with cruddy stock suspension, but you hardly have any miles on that truck considering its age.

Have you ever had issues trying to align it in the past, even before you did the lift? Wondering if the previous owner smacked something with that wheel, but then the wheel probabaly would have been damaged, too.

Hmmm, have you been jumping that truck a lot recently? Are you going bro on us? Shall I FedEx you a flatbill cap? Perhaps you need a bro-ho two-tone hair dye job.
