That's actually a great looking deal. Damn I wish the 500 had 2 outlets on it. I'm actually kind of thinking about going with the 300 instead for that very reason. Would I regret it? This will be just mainly powering a small set of camp lights and keeping the devices charged through a 3-4 day trip.

 

If that's all you plan to do, then the 300 should be perfect as it is a little smaller than the 500. However, if you wanted to power a fridge in addition to those devices, then you might consider adding a solar panel.

 

Im looking at the 300 also but the site says its unavailable. Will a 240 with solar panel run a small cooler over a weekend?

For reference, I bought the Explorer 1000 for the GB price of $899 and it's now $849.

I think you'd be just fine with a 240 and solar for a weekend. Especially if you plan to drive some during that time and the alternator can also help to charge up the unit. I've heard of people doing weekends with the 160, so the 240 should be just fine.
