Wow, yeah, look at the airbox. It's all pushed back and the lid looks like it's cracked and not on right. What a dick move

    Not me.

If you have the space to store (barn?), skills/tools to disassemble and access to bulk shipping at a discount, you might attempt it yourself. Or with a local friend or two. You know, ones who will actually invest cash in the purchase and sweat equity in the part out.

Otherwise, a crowd sourced part out via an internet enthusiast forum where 99% of the people don't use their real names and 96% don't even show the state they live in, much less the city?

Not only that, but after all the TRD parts are gone what do you have? At that point you have an SR5. These trucks are so new that the demand for the drivetrain parts is not there.

    True.

Because it's most unlikely that many would have interest in dropping a 3rd gen engine in their worn out 1st or 2nd gen.

Hmmm... at any price, this would not be worth it?

I wouldn't take it for that purpose for free. And that's even if the supporting driveline was PnP, which is pretty doubtful.

    1) there is nothing special about the engine. It's functional, but boring.

    2) the electrical work required to make it work properly would be somewhat daunting (not including the driveline unknowns mentioned above)

    3) did I mention there is nothing special about the engine itself to make it worth the effort/cost ?

Of course the simplest and most economical way to cure a failed engine is replace it with a like kind, or a rebuild of the existing (depending on the failure issue and your skills)

If I was going to the effort of a variant transplant I'd be doing something more robust, like a v8.

But that's just me. You may have a line at your door wanting it. Or not. :notsure:
