Just got the kit and all went well with the install until one of the ball bolts got stuck and broke off the mount.

Prob going to have to dremel the bolt off. Such a pain but oh well. Should I contact the email on the website or DM possibly for a replacement quarter panel and new bolts?

Managed to dremel it off. Ugh if only that metal mount wasn’t round….

Took me a good bit and I even tried to cut off the bolt on the other side which resulted in some damage.

I had a similar issue. Email Taco Garage. He sent new parts out right away. Great CS.
Also, I found a #10-32 bolt fits better.

I wish I saw this post before I bought mine. I had no problems installing this, very easy. I'm an amateur radio operator and I love how, with this mount, my radio is completely out of my field of view of the road. Plus I love how this mount does NOT look like a cheap add on. I would recommend this mounting setup for any of you thinking about it.

Mine is still stuck at the post office in San Diego, California. 8 days now... USPS is blaming Covid.

I got mine done last night. I was thrown off by the mentions of #10 drill bit but just worked my way up to the proper size which wound up being 3/8. A very sharp knife aids the deburring and very minor trim of edges of two mounting tabs for clearance with the nuts. I drilled out the slots and cleaned with knife and file. I used a wet rag to wipe it down a few times to remove the plastic shards which tend to stick.

I did just one ball mount for phone for now and not sure what accessories to add yet. I have a pioneer with wireless CarPlay so I don’t even think I need my phone visible for any reason. Maybe I can find a nice, light, portable CB to mount up there for long trips. Or maybe an ODB dongle so I can monitor some stuff and make the phone worth mounting.

Anyone mount a scan gauge to theirs?

I don't know if you have contacted anyone about this already but email contact@thetacogarage.com for stuff like this. We will send replacement parts no problem. This doesn't happen a lot but we have seen it before.

For every bottom plate when you tighten the two screws on the sides you have to make sure you have a screw loosely installed in the center holes to make sure everything maintains alignment as you tighten the side screws and lock everything into place, mI'm not saying this is what happened but it is the most common cause of this kind of issue.

Shouldn't bee too hard. There are cutouts along the front of the mount that are for running wires. You may need to open them up a little more to fit your cable then it's a simple as running the wires to the back of your radio.

Yup sorry I did email and was shipped (and arrived) the replacement parts. It's actually funny I thought the same as well and it turned out that the new bolt for the ball mount, included a washer and a lock - whether my two ball mounts only included (or just fell out) a washer.

When I installed the new aluminum plate I made sure to put in the two alignment screws FIRST like I did last time and everything installed fine. When I went to put on the new bolt with the washer AND lock - it fit perfectly. Then I installed it without the washer lock and it was significantly harder but not impossible to fully lock down. I think it was just the combination of the longer screw (without the washer lock) combined with something getting stuck that broke off the mount - as the other ball mount without the lock didn't break off the other mount (but did come close).
