The customer service satisfaction survey is the real deal. I figured it was just something you fill out and never here from agian, boy I was wrong. Had a bad experence at the dealer when I took my wifes 2010 Highlander in for some minor warranty issues, filled out the survey and was called by the head cheese of the dealership. Ended up getting 3 free oil changes and a free detail job. I never even asked for anything...:D

Show bottle was stuffed under the silver metal piece surrounding the bottom of the oil filter. There is a small drain hole there so I'm sure they were using this bottle to catch the mess.

^ If the dealer did the oil change, why is the filter a Performax PO-21, not Toyota?

Sounds like another "Toyota Care" success story. What should you say next time you talk with them? I'd tell them you'll be doing your own oil changes from now on. The "Toyota Care" bs is nothing more than a sales gimmick. Get a section of 5/16" hose and attach it to the oil filter drain nipple with a hose clamp. Run it down through the hole in the skid plate and cap the end once the oil has stopped draining. Go to the Toyota parts dept and get a case of oil filters...tell them to match the price you can get them for on-line and to throw in the gaskets. In most instances they'll match the lower price and still be making money.

That would have been the first thing I noticed. I was with the rest of the guys saying no harm no foul. Now that I see they didn't use a Toyota filter I would go back and have a talk with them. That seems fishy to me. Is that a filter you changed yourself and they didn't replace when you had them do the oil change?

yeah that seems like that techs version of a catch can for the drain off. after seeing that they didnt even use the right filter i would go in and speak to the service manager. i also would imagine that there are a lot of horror stories about dealers because nobody does anything about it. that survey is the ticket.. hold your ground on telling toyota what happend and the problem will get fixed.

Look at the bright side...at least they actually put oil back in and changed the filter.

I have not done any oil changing on this. It's been more convenient to have them do it for many reasons along with the bonus of the service being free. Maybe this non toyota filter gets put on there due to it being part of the free program?

i doubt they use any different filters.. thats the reason you take your vehicle to a dealer is to get oem parts not some knock off brand. ask them about the filter and show them the one on your truck.

This is a minor mistake that did no harm to your vehicle. At least you know that they don't just let the used oil drip down the side of the block. Let it go.

^ Agreed there is no need to be an ass at the dealer. I think it's worthwhile to point out the mistake to the service manager so they can improve. The non-Toyota filter is suspect, though.
