I remember hearing awhile back about GT-R tranny problems and traction control being turned off would void the warranty. I think the 2010's get rid of the drivetrain problems when using LC or whatever, but I'm not sure. They are definitely sweet cars, I'm just not sure I would daily drive something that expensive. 370z imo if its a daily.

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!

Thats kind of a main concern also, it will be a "daily" driver sort of. My doesn't work anymore, she has retired so it won't be driven too much as a daily. For the price of the Nismo, I can drag that car into its grave and go buy another one....and have some spare change! I will have to accept the fact that any car will get dings and scratches when it is frequently driven. I don't think I can handle that kind of stress!

I forgot to add earlier, my wife used to be an advanced tactical driving instructor for the Osaka Police department in Japan...she will definitely push either car to it's limits, she scares the shit out of me on the track!

Everyday Joe just like you guys. We are by no means rich or stuck up pricks, this has been something my wife has been wanting for many years and she can save money like no ones business! I should probably start taking some lessons huh!

Before we bought the taco, I had it narrowed down to three choices:

    1) 2009 Tacoma
    2) 2009 FJ Cruiser
    3) 2007 350z

We almost bought the FJ but my parents said it had to big of blind spots, and the 350z wasn't "practical".

There is a fundamental problem with this. It's rather apparent what she really wants is the GT-R. Thus anything else would be compromising.... which honestly isn't a great feeling. I 'compromised" with a pre-runner and regretted it almost every day.

That said, a GT-R is not a daily car. It's not designed or ment for it. Doing maint yourself is great.... if you have all the tools to work on it. Let alone working on it yourself voids the warranty on a very very very expensive car to replace things. The transmission alone is over 20k to replace. Even then, this assumes it uses normal tools for most items and not specialty ones (I honestly haven't looked into it). So there's another thing to consider that you may end up having to buy unique tools for this car as well. GT-R's are sick, if I win the lotto I'll have a black one parked in my new 20 car garage... but that's about the only condition I will.

Thus that leaves you with the 370Z. They're great cars, but honestly I'd go with the G37. I say this being a former G35 owner, the back seats came in handy for those times you did need a 3rd and 4th person (granted not comfy but it will get the job done... especially if you need to force some designated driver on some friends). Personally I find the looks of a lightly modded G37 to kill the 370Z visually, the interior is a lot nicer, and overall it'll be a great daily driver... with a proper 6mt gearbox and clutch to boot. 98% of your 370z mods will transfer over with little to no adaption (same motor). Sure you gain a few extra pounds and "s on the wheel base... but in a daily driver those are extremely small things to fret over for the added comfort.

Yes, the GT-R is badass and baller. However if you even think it could make you pinch pennies... it's not worth it for you because even doing the main itself it will eventually brake your wallet and burry it 200ft in the ground. Oh let's not even talk tires... which a stock G will do ok with and have reasonably priced choices where GT-R is very specific in it's requirements with almost no play to toy around with.

Another option, I'd rather import an R34 Skyline than get the new GT-R for the same or less cost. Much better, much sexier, and even more reliable with a proper gearbox and inline ftw.

edit: also for the warranty I'm aware of the M-M act that states working on it yourself or others does not void a warranty, but let's face it Nissan will try their damnedest and probably succeed in denying you on a GT-R with their team of lawyers if you miss even one dot on a i or one cross on a t.

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!

Wow, you have some great points! Both my wife and I came to a definite answer last night. We are going to go with the Z. Everything about the GT-R is bad ass, but it also screams money and I don't want to be pinched left and right with random bills and a gas guzzler that only chugs premium. We almost purchased the Nismo last year and found out a lot of people were complaining about the cars not having an transmission oil cooler, it was actually causing some serious problems for some owners! We didn't rush into things and decided to wait with some talk about the next year having oil coolers from the factory. Nissan listened and they are coming equipped on the 2010 models. I think having to wait this much has put a lot rational decisions in place.

It's great to hear everything you guys have had to say, I really appreciate your input good or bad. This isn't something that I am really comfortable to talk about with friends or co-workers, being able to post here and get the responses I did was awesome. I will post some pics in a couple of days when it comes in.
