I’ll give a hint if no one gets it soon.
It’s a 1/2” Drive ratchet fitting for size reference.
    The tool is 3.5 - 4” diameter.

Looks like the internal gear of a female ratchet? :notsure:

Or a ‘whatchamacallit’ aka a doohickey

I updated the info above. It’s about 4” in diameter.
    Uses a 1/2” drive ratchet.

Some sort in internal grabbing tool. Like one of those filter wrenches for ratchets. The harder you turn the tighter it gets. But this one is internal?

Yes, it is hard to explain how it’s used.

    We have a winner.

And after seeing this, I don’t think the 3rd Gen trucks are all that bad to change the filter?
I mean, I’ve never changed the oil on a 3rd Gen, but it surely can’t be as bad as the 2.5 Iron Duke?

I’ll do my best to explain what it is used for

It removes the big oil plug on a GM 2.5L. The oil filter was IN the pan. And, like most things once it got stuck, and you rounded of the bolt head. That’s the tool you had to use.

It was a cartridge filter IN the pan.
Literally a 3.5” plug in the pan.
