So I was driving to work today and a guy pulls up next to me to let me know that my taillights are out. I know they were all working last week. The cab, and both left and right brake lights are out. Taillights and turn signals are fine. We've had some wet weather this last week and I wonder if that has something to do with it. I checked the fuse panel in the engine compartment and found a fuse labeled "STOP", a 10 amp. I pulled that out and it seemed fine to me but I bought some new 10 amp fuses and replaced it but the break lights are still out.

I hadn't realized the OEM taillights are LED, is it possible that if one goes out they all go out? Would love some advice on where to start troubleshooting this.

There is another fuse box inside the cab, left and below of the steering wheel. Off the top of my head I do not know what is in there but its a start.

Yeah I checked that one and didn't see anything that resembled brakes.

Could be the actuator switch. I think it is on the pedal.

if that were not working wouldn't he not be able to shift out of park? not sure if its the one actuator that controls both or not

Bocsy44, I suppose I figured that was for tail lights and not necessarily brake lights. The tail lights work fine (picture) but the brake lights don't but maybe that fuse is for the brake lights. I'll check when I get home and have a some pliers handy as I can't seem to pull that fuse by hand.

honestly I'm not sure if it is a different fuse for brake lights and tail lights of its its all on one but its worth having a look. I do believe theres a little tool for pulling them out in the fuse panel under the hood.

His tool is missing. It would be in that slot above the extra fuses.

@xillusioner, is your truck an auto, or manual transmision? If manual, my money is on the brake light switch up behind the pedal.

Well I picked up the chilton manual and the fuse for "stop" controls the brake lights and the "tail" the tail lights. I still checked the tail fuse and its fine. I'm thinking it could be the brake light switch on the brake pedal.

Yes the 3rd brake light is also out. And it's an automatic transmission.

Can you shift out of park without stepping on the brake pedal?

If not (you shouldn't be able to), I'd start by checking for power and ground at the 3rd brake light with the pedal depressed.

If you can, your brake light switch AND your shift interlock aren't working properly.

Yeah man like @landphil said, if u have an automatic and u are able to shift out of park then it can't be the pedal actuator haha maybe it's just a bad ground?
