Sure. gimme a sec. are you just wanting tab and backround music to play along with or a recorder?
I think your wanting a recorder. GP is just backround music and tab. I use 2 programs for that. GP and "songster". Between the two of them, I can get all the tab and backround music to whatever I like to play. Both of them you can systematically mute whatever instruments you like.

I don't use any online recording software. I use "garagebands" 24 track digital studio or my tascam DP CF 8 track.
I also like to break out my fostex x-28 anolog tape recorder ( which happens to be the recorder that the beatles used for many of there early recordings) if I want a more analog, dirty, vintage recording.

im not really sure man. i don't have tape recorder where i could do the good stuff but im planning on getting a basic usb mic to hook up to my computer so i could save stuff i put together. . . i guess part of my request is information on it. here's what i want - to be able to record my guitar and vocals into the computer and then add harmonica, backing vocals, solos (acoustic) and maybe a little banjo and put it all together. . i don't really need the "see the GP tab" stuff like i see on tab websites and what not. i just want to be able to record and loop over my own work and put it together. . . and then share with you guys of course! .. . . sorry if im so ill informed on how it all works. im trying to learn.

    ok. Thats cool.
Sounds like what you need is an 8,12 or 24 track studio on your computer.
You definately will need a good mic. Most every program I know of requires some sort of usb or firewire interface box and I don't know of anything that is free for doing that.

Let me look around for a day or 2 and maybe I can find a clean software studio for you that doesnt require an interface where you can just get a good mic and plug it right into your "mic in" on the comp.

ok and i saw your edit. thats helpful too. and yeah ive been thinking about getting a tape track recorder. right now just trying to do least expensive method haha.

for example, here's a screen shot of what ive been using. it's a free program called audicity
    [IMG]

that's just a D,A,G riff i laid down last year (top recording) and a little solo scale run deal on the bottom that i was able to line up while listening to the D,A,G riff.

and you said garage band. isn't that mac? i have pc and i was hoping to get something along those lines to use. it just feels like that audacity limits me so much and the background fuzz even in a quit room after you put more than 3 tracks together is so fuzzy it drowns out the rest of the noise.

and for reference, here's the song i want to do. it's just beautiful

Yea. Garageband is on mac and unfortunately my iMAC took a shit on me for like the 100th time. Its a 2007 24 inch model and I have had 6 lcd's, a mainboard, 3 gpu's, several fans, hdd's and whatever else they could swap out. Biggest pos I ever bought.

And I am familiar with audacity. I actually use it for my final mixdowns from my tascam to the pc. I always thought it sounded pretty clean and that acdc track I did was mixed down on audacity strait thru the line in on my pc. Wierd your getting noise in the backround.

ok man that's great, i'd really appreciate it. like i said, i don't have the gear to do professional stuff, but some kind of software (that i'd be willing to pay a little bit for, let's say less than $50) where i could play around with is what im looking for. im just hesitant right now do buy a program and find it's not what i need. cause i don't need to be able to put in my electric or anything like that, just basic analog recordings.

and take your time on you searching. any effort you put into it whenever you get the time is highly appreciated. thanks again.

yeah well it's just me sitting in front of my computer using it's built in mic so what can you expect? haha. that's why im planning on getting a mic so i can get a cleaner sound. . . .also with audacity it saves it in a weird format i haven't been able to figure out how to convert to mp3 or WAV or really anything i could save to my itunes or upload online.

Not a problem. You should come down some weekend. I havn't played in quite a while and my tascam just sits in the corner collecting dust and I have only used it like 5 times since I bought it. We could probably complete several projects that you have and although I suck at guitar and bass, I could probably put down what you need on tracks.
Just with my iMAC down for the time being, we have no percussion.

man that would be a blast. about every weekend me and one of my buddies play for hours just doing back and forth guitar leads and rhythms. and about once every two months or so it will work out to where me and about 4 other friends will play in my barn or a house. we'll have bass, drums, electrics, acoustics and just have a ball. fun to do some old tom petty and stuff like that.

you planning on going to uwharrie? i still don't know on my work schedule yet, but if we both head out there we could do some kumbaya around the camp fire stuff during the night haha.

Initially I was going to try and go so I could hook up with conrad to deliver this tranny/tcase setup but my mom and gram are flying down this tuesday and I will be driving them back to indiana during thxgiving. I only get to see them maybe 3 times a year so for them to visit for 3 weeks (they have only been to visit 3 times since I have been working in sc and only once since I bought my first home) is a total blessing!! I want to spend every moment I can with them.

shoot i'll just post it up here, more people can dig into them if they want!

    1. The Weight by The Band (key of A. one of my favorite songs of all time)
    2. Oh My Sweet Carolina by Ryan Adams
    3. PBR Promenade by American Aquarium (local band that is spectacular. spending 10 bucks on their Dances For The Lonely album is a better investment than for food and water)
    4. Wagon Wheel. (hey it's easy, but im from Raleigh, we worship it)
    5. Tie between "Carolina in My Mind" and "Fire and Rain" for JT. . . challenging buy amazing.

will finish later, am off to class now... :burnrubber:

finally figured out how to upload from audacity so i can take my shitty computer recordings and make you suffer through them!!

this is just the chords D A and G played at a riff i liked and looped. i plugged in my headphones, hit record, and freestyled it!! it's longer than it should be and i don't really think represents my "ability" but i like it enough to share i guess haha.
