Hey, I was wondering if anyone has or knows of a brand of gun magnet that can mounted on the backside of the dash instead of directly to the front...concealing it and allowing you to hold the gun directly on the dash panel?! Thx.

That seems like it'd be really awkward to grab if you ever needed it

No, I mean the gun would still mount in the same spot on the front, just the magnet would be on the back so you couldn't see it directly attached to the front of the dash?!

i think he is talking about one that is strong enough to work through the dash.

OP, there are a couple threads showing different ideas. I always like the down low by the right knee idea, but sadly, I am a lefty, so it doesn’t work for me, ha

See the rear view mirror disconnect at 2:25? https://youtu.be/NlzWCBNeVDs?t=143
Thats what happens to your gun on a magnetic mount in an accident. Carry on your persons or securely locked away is the only way imo

The gun is going to dangle down by a wire?

So weird, why are they ejecting a round every time they pull it off?

Well if you wire it up yeah lol otherwise its going to go flying around the cab. Its theres enough force to disconnect your mirror in an accident theres no way a loaded gun using magnets (even neodymium) will hold up to that force

I watched the video and still feel a magnet is best for me, I always mount it forward and usually from the top and I figure if I get in that bad a crash I'm already rolling dice every which way anyways. I also feel that stowed away oose has just as much chance of a discharge in a bad accident as mounted. Just my humble opinion.

That's what I'm thinking, too - with the magnet on the other side of the plastic, the pistol will sit directly flush up against the dash. With the magnet mounted conventionally, there's that inch or so of space allowing you to wrap your hand around the pistol and you'd be taking that away.

Just did a quick test to see how it might work with one of the very strong double magnets I recently bought and haven't installed yet. I placed a small pocket calendar between the magnet and gun to be somewhere like the thickness of the plastic part of the dash. With that extra space, plus the additional space caused by the sights, it's not strong enough to hold it securely in place. Great idea, but with the magnet I have it wouldn't work for me.

Wet okole seat covers with optional built in gun holsters work well for me.easy access while seated

I think they built in a feature to let you rack the slide before drawing. Why you would have a pistol on/with you without a round chambered is beyond me, though.

I reckon it's to show you that it cocks the pistol.

So you're planning on walking to truck, drawing, placing firearm on magnet, driving to destination(s), re-holstering, then going about your business?

"I'll take great way to earn a 911 "man with a gun call" for 900, Alex."

You do you, but both tactically and practically, this doesn't seem like a great idea. Also, depending on Oregon and it's officers interpretation of "in plain sight" this may potentially count as a concealed firearm.
