The idea is that if you're paying attention, you'll be ready to react to someone about to rob or carjack you without drawing too much attention to the fact you have a gun. A firearm is never for prevention, it's a tool to defend yourself.

I get that this seems to be a uniquely American way of thinking but to me, carrying is normal and no different than my phone, knife, or wallet. I'll probably never need it but having been in a situation where I've looked down the barrel of a gun, it's good to know that when I read the situation next time, I don't just have to stand there and wait for it to play out.

What's the average response time for police where you live?

Fair enough. Do your guns typically shoot on their own?

That's a good thing. Just 2 months ago I had some dude casing my house at night. Instead of calling the cops and hiding in my house for however long I'd take the cops to come I handled it myself.
Works a lot better that way imo.

ide do the same, but I've never had to and probably wont. Doesn't mean I keep my guns locked up.

    Own a Sig P320 by chance? :D

In all honesty, they'd prob be fine, but being thrashed all around a cab, who knows what could happen in an accident.

I didn't think I'd have to either. We live in a nice neighborhood, low crime rate, etc etc etc. My wife was 38 weeks pregnant at the time too.

The guy looked like one of those California transplants we unfortunately have moving here. He was very confused as to why he had someone yelling at him and a large gun in his face..... It was like 930 at night.

2 most common statements given by crime victims are: 1. I can't believe it happened to me and 2. I can't believe how fast it happened.

What if his friends were waiting out of sight for you to appear then take your weapon and keys? Also what if the dude was just out of this world high and used a hammer to smash you while not feeling the pain of your pistol rounds. What if the dude was just involved in a gnarly car crash and was look for help lol? I mean it's real life man, literally anything can happen. Would def not recommend confronting unknowns, maybe just lock and load and stay inside all nice and safe till the cops come?

Good thing I have cameras and that's how I first saw him anyways. But you bring up a valid point, and that's exactly one of the reasons I have cameras in the first place. And a lot can happen in the 5 min+ it takes police to arrive, I'm more than comfortable handling my own security. If police had an average response time of instant, then I wouldn't take my personal security seriously.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about with this?! I've been around guns since my cop father introduced me when I was 9 years old. So 30+ years now...But, I appreciate your concern. I was just looking for a way to conceal a gun magnet. Not get a lecture on gun safety. Besides....Carrying your gun in your car is not concealing in any way here...OR is an open carry state. Also, vehicles without a trunk are allowed to transport inside the vehicle.

Optics! lol Just to have the magnet not show. It wasn't for tactical advantage or more room.

Israelis used to draw like that - they’d chamber and draw in one motion. Also, the original 1911 was designed in a way to allow you to rack the slide one-handed on a saddle or a firm leather holster — that’s why the guide rod doesn’t run all the way through like lots of modern handguns.

OP — the magnetron thing seems like a bad idea. I would check in with law enforcement in your area. Ask a cop. They like to be quick on the draw if shit hits the fan, and they probably don’t use magnets or hang their guns upside down against the ebrake (which you might need ASAP if something happens to your vehicles brakes!!) or whatever. And they’ll be receptive and know the local carry laws and tell you what’s appropriate.

It’s odd to me that people want to get this creative with something this dangerous. If shit hits the fan you want it to be consistent and reliable. And, like the studies that see how well trained CC shooters do when something totally unexpected happens, you still have an awesome chance of hurting yourself or someone bystander. Good luck.
