    Gents,

Hunting season has started in VA, and firearms season is just around the corner. I have a 16 OffRoad with the sunroof. It is also a double cab. I wanted to put a ceiling mounted gun rack on the truck like I have seen in my friends Chevys, but the sun roof gets in the way.

The back window is pretty small when you take the back seat head rests into account, and I like to be able to see through it.

I have seen the slings that are hung behind the back seats, but it gets hard to pack people in to drive around. *edit- I have also seen the tactical based mounts that go behind the driver and passenger seat, but again I loose the ability to cram friends in the truck with me when I am driving from property to property*

The only other option is buying a then tool box from tractor supply for $100 and locking them in there. But, that permanently reduces bed space.

Has anyone done any of the above and or has anyone done anything different to hold guns in their taco?

If so post pictures! I'd love to get some feedback.

    Thanks,

    Working on something right now.
    Template mockup--everything looked good;

Will CNC cut it next week.
Still trying to find a way to anchor it to ceiling...
The OEM handles are held in with press fit plugso_O
, so a rivnut or something similar will need to be installed.

Nice. Ceiling mount between the sun roof and back of the cab I take it?

How will you attach the guns to that? I like where your heads at. Please keep me posted as you go with that, and remeber how to do it.... I may get you to make two. Ha

Also, I like the low profile look you're going with. If you get it installed let me know if the clearance from seat/ass to ceiling/head would cause any issues with someone in the back seat.

    The GatRac®
Actually, it hangs ~level with the overhead dome light.
The headliner directly above the rear seats has a depression where the rack bends up to gain clearance.
Been' driving with the test template, and plenty of space for rear passengers head-space.
Now, with stuff hanging down....that's another story.

You wouldn't happen to be in VA would you? I'd love to see that thing installed. As well as what would fit on it. I'd prob have a rem 870, muzzle loader, and .308 hanging from it... Not the lightest boom sticks

    ^Nope, sorry. Far West.
Not sure if all 3 would fit:eek:
Load capacity would be an issue, Al or Steel..hmm

//edit: also, not sure if Sunroof models have the same contoured headliner.

@mesojdm I like your project. I hope you get a secure mount figured out, I'd be very interested in a group buy for this panel. Do you have a thread for this project?

I see. One of the reasons. I was looking to it because I usually drive a bunch of people out to the hunt club properties and around the properties and having 4-5 people in the truck doesn't leave much room for guns.

FYI I saw this one on Instagram a while back.

    http://conditionzeromounts.com/collections/rackbone/products/rackbone-deluxe

I saw the guy had mounted a Xbow on it as well as an assortment of rifles. It's expensive, takes up room in back seat, and doesn't look like it could hold guns for a truck full of people. But if it is just you rolling around with your rifle or shotgun this model is sick as hell

Also see this post from the IG account I saw this on. If you use the discount code seastate21 you get 100% off. Figured I would give him a shoutout. Pretty cool page.

The Taco has a small(er) cab. 4-5 People,, and you can't fit much of anything.
IMO, This is the best location I have found for space optimization while being readily accessible.
If storing a firearm, security measures will need to be implemented. (I am not a lawyer, know your local/state laws transporting firearms)
I set it up for molle, but maybe re-design and spec to M-Lok dimensions:cool:
QD all the things; flashlights, EDC-med kit, pouches, etc.

A friend owns an early 90s Toyota truck with an external bed rack. He mounted ATV boots/scabbards to the bed rack and it's pretty cool. When he hits town for a burger and beer the rifles go in the cab.

^ Thanks. Just by eyeballing the pictures, it looks like the rack is a No-go. The "dip" in the headliner looks like it starts at the rear handles.
