What is the driving need to rack a rifle in the Tacoma? Seems like a lot of hassle.

It does they are positioned on the start of the dip.. There is not a lot of room to work with because of the dome light as well. However, I a, wondering if there is something that could be made if you remove the Rangers above the rear window and use those existing mounting brackets as a mount for a gun rack. Mind you it wouldn't be enough room but for one or two rifles or one now...

    Thoughts?

It's easier storage that keeps the gun dry, locked, and out of the way if I have a truck full of people. Gear, coolers, climber tree stands, and (hopefully)dead dear fill up the short bed quick. That mixed with a two+ hour drive to and from my hunt club would make for a very uncomfortable ride to and from the club. Finally it'd be a safer way to transport the guns if I am driving people to their stands during a dog hunt. The club I am on is a couple thousand acres.

And I have the double cab and JBL Speaker package, so there is very limited room behind the rear seats. I keep the basics emergency supplies there: Andre of whisky, carton of reds, a couple jugs of water, and some emergency food.

Think there's enough room/depth to fit a rifle down in the jack stand compartment below the rear seats in a doublecab?

Low pro gun drawer in the bed or gun locker/racks above the wheel wells; think rod storage under gunnels of a boat. 4-5 people in a taco with their respective guns inside is going to be a crummy ride.

Just an FYI, if you remove the useless plastic cubbies from behind the rear seat you can easily fit an AR and a shotgun while still being able to get to them quickly. They're completely hidden and don't rattle around at all.

I was wondering the same thing. however, those mounts are the same 'press fit' pices of aluminum under there. Not sure how sturdy you could make that area.

Which is why I asked. It's really hard to put 4 people and their gear, guns, and selves in the cab of a Tacoma. You and a buddy is fine. Gear and guns on the back seat in their cases. Carcasses in the bed with ice chests and other shit that can get wet. Adding racks in a Tacoma interior is just a pain in the ass. Just my opinion. I might do a rack in my 4Runner, just not enough room in my previous Taco and I don't think the Gen3 changed that.

You need a full size my friend. Probably not what you want to hear but that's what you're describing based off of your needs.

I just checked the 2 rear mounts(above the back window). Looks like a suitable location, but after sitting in there...it will definitely be a head buster. Shouldn't have got a sunroof! The current version MAY work with spacers to drop it down an inch.

Update; 3/8" Rivnuts fit the existing overhead holes pretty good(minor reaming) and should provide more then enough support. I am getting quotes to cut these out. 1/4" 6061. They are 8" X 46", so I could get 12 on a full sheet. How many would be interested in these?

FYI I am just trying to brainstorm ideas or piggyback of of someone's creation that'd make hunting with a bunch of friends a little easier and make us all able to drive in one truck.

Wonder if that's make the head clearance even more of an issue.

If you think it would fit correctly in mine, I could be interested. How much a do you think it'd run? (In va)

    Thanks

As you know, it boils down to physics. There's only so many cubic inches in the cab. The more bodies in the cab means storage moves to the bed. Hence the reason folks use toppers or trailers.
