In that case I’d add a silica packet or two, increase oil/cleaning routine as well as call my insurance agent and make sure it’s covered on your insurance in case of theft. I’d also take photos of the serial number and email it to myself.... but I have the safe so I throw it in there.

Well...I’m not exactly “untrained” in the “tactical” world, but putting it in the lockable glove box With a simple attachment seems obvious for actual usable reasons.

One flaw...the Tacoma glovebox key is obnoxious

I like your comment. I read you loud and clear

Unfortunately I live in NY. I’ve heard some people complaining about rust carrying a G43 but I think that comes down to them not cleaning and oiling the firearm. A lot of people say/believe temp swings and moisture are killers of Ammo. The ammo I’m using for carry is hard for me to get. Federal HST 147 grain law enforcement. I ordered it online and once they sell out the remaining batch they won’t have anymore. Wouldn’t be an issue in most places but most online sites won’t ship to NY. Soon it will be illegal. Being the law enforcement version you can’t get it in stores. I’m not a LEO but do have a few friends who are who might be able to get their hands on some for me.

Me wanting to carry into work has nothing to do with me waning to be a hero. The plant is locked down and only a few ways in. Everything is gated and fenced. We enter through turn styles. If anyone came to shoot the place up my guess would be a employer or former one if they can get in. Place is so big the odds of me being in the mix would be slim.

The intention of me carrying into my work is just so I have my firearm on me when I’m walking out. The few times I left it in my truck, I have locked it in my glove box. Since it has a lock I felt it’s more secure than in the console for now. However a few times I have just left it in there while driving. Forgetting it when going into a gas station or Walmart on the way home, and once forgetting it and leaving it in my truck locked up all night. While it was lawfully reckless, to me I about freaked out when I rembered in the morning. I just got my permit like a month ago so I’m not fully used to carrying everyday, and I fact the past several I haven’t. I know it’s best to carry everywhere and at all times. Better to have and not need, than need and not have. So that aspect makes me want to have it with me at all times. I feel I’ll carry more and it will be easier if I bring it into work, then descretely put it in my locker when I’m changing and getting ready, vs locking it up in the glove box and it being out of site and out of mind.

Good call on the insurance just to be safe.

I keep all my gun paperwork in my file cabinet but I also thought about taking pics of them and the serials and having them stored away. At one point I had an app that did that but only let you hold like 2 before they wanted you to buy the full version. Wasn’t sure if it was worth it and some say it’s a bad idea to have that info on you. I don’t think it can effect you negatively, and having it on you is a good thing if it gets stolen, especially since you only have 24 hours in NY to make a report. Better to have that info at your finger tips if you can’t be at home to dig it up. Although for pistols the serial is on the permit.

Would these be classified as a taticool magnet?

Yes indeed. The one I have that holds the whole gun by the slide looks like this. It’s very strong

Only if they are overpriced and the people selling them make videos where they are wearing operator clothing, have a perfectly manicured beard and use their hands when they talk.

Yep and turn the pistol into a tacticool hammer to the face in the event of a accident and even more so in a roll over.

For those combo locks posted earlier, how hard and time consuming would it be to unlock that in the dark or in an emergency? I feel like with adrenaline and those tiny dials, that could pose an issue.

I keep mine one number off most of the time. I know which one and which way it’s off and by how many clicks. I can do it while driving and in the dark by feel. I do it everyday. I don’t ever think I’d have a problem, even with an adrenaline dump, getting the lock I use over two times a day open.

    Just my two cents

I have two gun magnets in my truck. One along the right side of my leg while driving, another in the glove box for storage when leaving for short periods. Lock box cabled to the child restraint hook on the driver's side for longer term storage.

Gun vault under the seat, anchored to the seat post with a cable. I have to for when I need to secure my pistol and can't have it on my hip. Out of sight and locked up.

I have the Tuffy rear seat lock box. I can keep the lower from my SBR in there along with my work MacBook and iPad and a G19, and still have room for my can, DBAL, Micro, and light. And a few mags. The upper has to go into the underseat stowage bin.

I've been debating the console box, but I've already got plenty of room in the back seat locker so it just isn't viable for me at this point.

Avoid biometric. Dirty fingers, rough skin from working, etc lot of ways it won't read your prints.
