That is why if my gun is in mine and I am in the truck, the console is unlocked. If I leave the truck with the gun in the console, the vault gets locked. Most of the time I am in the truck, the gun is either mounted next to my leg on a highway holster bar or in a IWB holster on me.

    Agreed,

Just thought the thread was "Gun safe / lock box in 3rd gen Tacoma"

Usually carry on me inside the truck or on magnet in the truck, use the Tuffy for when I go into a particular federal building with a metal detector and county sheriffs manning them.

Agree with this. Passenger seat? Have not tried, but imagine with it slid forward you can access the box from inside the cab. That is if a box will fit under that seat as well. Using the First Alert safe myself.

I've had different kinds of lock boxes over the years, but now I stick with very simple, but inexpensive.
This is the box I have in my Tacoma. It can't be seen from outside. That is an ABUS padlock, keyed the same as my house key, so I always have the key with me. :)

So you see, the jump seat DOES serve a purpose in an Access Cab.

Not sure about the access cab, but in my 2016 double cab, there is a lip that rises up under the front of the seat that prevents sliding even a fairly slim lock box under from the front. On my 1999, I could slip the lock box forward, put my gun in it, and then slide it back under without ever opening the door. But on the 3rd gen, you have to put it under the seat from the back, which means opening the rear door.

One thing I just thought of that I suppose could be done, is to cut a small hole in the bottom of the seat back pocket on the passenger seat. You could loop a locking cable around the seat posts, then feed the cable up through the hole and store the lock box in the seat back pocket. That would be accessible from the driver's seat if you used a long enough cable.

Lol, it can’t be seen but those chains can. That screams to a theft that something valuable is there. You’d be better bolting it directly to the floor if that’s where you always keep it and there isn’t much of a reason to move it.

Actually, the chain is only "barely" visible through the tinted windows, and then only if you look really carefully. So I'll paint the chain flat black, like the ammo box. Thanks for the feedback.

Might even be wise to get a little longer chain and tuck it under the floor mat. You could still paint it black as well

This thing is not worth the steel it’s stamped from, at least in my experience. I had installed one for a few days and luckily got my money back.
It uses just two flimsy mounting straps and it is really easy to get a pry bar behind the top edge.

Apparently from reviews I have seen. The full pistol grip is, the angle on this version mitigates the recoil.

Also...all the chain and padlocks in the world don't matter much when those two thin arms are the only thing you need to cut to get the lid open. Plain old tin snips will do for those.
