    Hey guys,
First off please delete this if one exist but I could not find a thread dedicated to this topic.

Well heres the deal, a buddy of mine and myself are looking at gun safes and as I'm sure most of us have no problems at all in picking out and buying a gun to add the collection but finding a gun safe that fits the needs is completely different. I'm looking for one to buy by end of this year or beginning of next year. Ideally not a stack on safe/cabinet based on all the things I've read.

    Things I'm looking for:
    Under $700
Big enough for 12 long guns and some ammo cans possibly
Fire resistant for 40 min or so
Lock doesn't have to be electric, a combo one is fine
Can be bolted to floor and wall

Aside from looking for assistance in picking out a safe I think it would be cool to see some safes that you guys have!
When I get a chance Ill get a pic of my girls family safe. Its an old bank vault from the 60's that is massive! Her dad paid $200 for it from an antique shop becuase the lock was locked without a combo, $150 later a lock smith came and fixed that. So now a $350 safe that should cost $1200 works flawlessly.

Look forward to seeing and hearing from you guys! Heck even those cool tactical wall ones would be neat to see.

For that budget, you are looking at entry level safes. It's not a bad thing, but it depends how much time you want to give thieves to crack it. I have an entry level safe and I don't even trust it, but it works for me as I'm constantly moving residency. I have a motion detect alarm and bolted that sucker down. Guaranteed? No. If I had a permanent residency, I'd go at least passed the entry level line. Wish I could recommend what I have, but I wouldn't even buy it again if I had another chance. I just needed something temporary. It will probably end up as ammo storage when I upgrade.

I second what DJfrenzy said, look for something ~1,200 if possible.
Check Tractor supply up in Ramona, they have some decent budget safes, not sure if they have any in store.

Yep, I'm in the $1200 range and I feel like it's BARELY good enough with a 60 min at 1500* rating plus the RSC approval

Liberty Safes are the way to go, I know they have a collab with Cabelas thats a little less expensive.

Consider looking for a used one or saving more for a new one. Free advice, whatever space you think you need, double it.

When I get a permanent residence with a shop I'll be getting something like this for overflow and another smaller safe for my NFA stuff, or just build a safe room.

Realistically I wouldn't buy one until I laid my hands on it...I found the interiors and fit/finish to be the biggest determining factor

I prefer Champion interiors over the other major name brands I found within a 100 mile radius

Rather than recommend a safe, I'm going to point you here; http://gunsafereviewsguy.com/buyers-guide/best-gun-safe/ . This will help you make a more educated decision. And, I apoligize if I'm out of line here, but DO NOT post a picture of your g/fs', or anyones' safe without their permission. There are some things people prefer to keep private.

    back to bone stock.
i bought a safe out of Fresno CA. Sturdy Safe. we get the benny of being in CA and saving on shipping. mine holds 11 guns. just short of your req..but it is damn burly.

it is also kinda ugly. just like a nasty old bank safe. i didnt want to pay for good looks. it has fire protection and it isnt sheet rock. it looks like a fabric. i think i paid $850 or so, so just above your budget. the thing weighs 900 lbs and has hole for me to bolt it down.

i vote you call Sturdy and see what they can do for you. i just need to buy my stuff some time for the FD to come and put out my fire. and keep the meth heads out. if you really wanted in, and had have a brain,..getting in is easy.

I'm realizing now I might have to expand that budget for the safe haha, if I buy something cheap now itll likely become my ammo storage one later down the road.
Thanks man for the local reference! Ill give them a look

    haha thanks

Thats sweet if cabelas can give a better deal!

Yeah used is what Im thinking now, thanks!
Haha I was sure somewhere there were more post but figured if I can make a specific thread for everyone and not just myself about safes. A place with info and peoples opinions

As a comment to those here and those looking, I am not asking for pics of your safe if you do not want to show anything. Mainly curious to see what it looks like but a generic pic from the company works just fine too.

Thank you guys for the comments thus far hopefully as I find a safe the links and opinions provided here will help someone in a similar situation :cheers:

My principal home safe is a Fort Knox. I can recommend that brand highly.

That said I highly recommend that you consider that safes will most likely cost well more than your budget, and that you should consider purchasing one much larger than what you currently need. The reason for this is that no matter how large your purchased safe it, you'll out grow it.

Ive heard a lot about Fort Knox and yeah man, in a perfect world I would have a gun room enclosed in concrete walls and a vault door and if I had the money I would even out grow that haha. For now I still live at home and will for another 2-3 years so I cant have a huge safe. Anything will be better than what I have now. I have a built in book case with a desk on the bottom form when the house was made in 1970's and the bottom of the desk has three doors side by side that are about 4 feet in length but with all my ammo, long guns, and other stuff in there its impossible to fit my ar15s let alone get any of my long guns out.

I'd count on MAYBE 8 long guns total if you're lucky and none have scopes
