I just bought a gun vault for the center console. Has anyone else bought one? I saw one guy cut a plexi glass cut out and attach his holster to it.

    The vault is by tuffy.

    I mean....its cool but I don't see the point.

If your gun is locked up then you won't be able to get to it fast enough when needed.

If you leave your gun in your truck instead of carrying it with you then it's not doing any good for anyone.

It's good for when you're not allowed to carry it. I carry mine as much as I can, but occasionally I can't carry when I get to where I'm going. Instead of leaving it easily accessable in my truck while I'm gone it goes in the safe.

I like the idea of being able to lock stuff up, firearm or not. Let's say you're at the beach and want to "double" lock (doors, then box) your wallet so no one can just smash and grab. Also, if you had to go somewhere concealed carry is unlawful, it would be handy to be able to double lock up your firearm temporarily (key word).

For me, I have no issues carrying my G26, G19, or Sig P320 inside my waistband on the hip with the Taco's mildly bolstered seats, so I'd probably not go for the box, but it looks pretty slick.

There are several times when I think the safe would be good.

For one, CA is nuts with firearms anyway so I dont have to run the stupid lock though the gun. I can just put in the safe. Second laws change from state to state and having this allows me to be a little more careful. Also for times when I need to leave the gun in the truck I can feel safer and not worried about someone grabbing it, if I randomly left a window down or door unlocked.

Let's not forget that kids like to get into shit. Irresponsible and bad parenting for sure but shit happens. Imho anyone that carries regularly should at least consider it.

I have one and like it. Mine has the combination lock on it, seems sturdy, and like not having it available or visible for smash and grab. Still learning where it's ok and not ok to carry, but I like it. Besides, being right next to the people's republik of New Jersey (and working in it), you have to be REAL careful not to be incarcerated for transporting illegally in the state.

I am assuming you lose your charging port with the box?

I didn't notice one in it. I have two in the dash, never needed two at a time yet. No issue for me, guess you'd have to evaluate the need and decide.

I have the Tuffy vault in my 2014. If you can't think of a good reason to get one then don't get one. You won't have one. You won't need to see the point.

I think it's a smart thing to have for other valuables besides just a firearm but to each their own.

There are so many instances when these vaults make perfect sense.

How is this secured? Or what is stopping someone from lifting the vault out and opening it later?

It bolts down to the bottom of the cab using the same bolt holes that hold the console to the floor.

I like this vault the best. It has great reviews and comes with a cut out for your charging port in your console. You can get different options for the lock as well (Tumbler lock, 3/4 digit combo lock and an electronic number pad). The lid is also spring assisted for easy access. They are incredibly easy to install and I'll be buying one once I am stateside.

It's screwed or bolted into the floor from the inside. Not secure against someone who really wants it but better than nothing.
