off topic here but when you say isolated spot do you mean like hours away from the nearest town or like a camp ground?

In California, It is unlawful to carry a loaded rifle, shotgun, or
handgun in any public place or on any public street in
an incorporated area or an area where firing a firearm is
prohibited. In California, a firearm is considered loaded
if unexpended ammunition capable of being used in the
firearm is attached in any manner to the firearm.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
If the local laws allow for open carry, by all means go for it.

However I'm more of a discreet person and prefer concealed carry. I carry concealed damn near everywhere it's legal to in Texas. Grocery stores, parks, movie theaters, restaurants where less than 51% of revenue is derived from alcohol consumed on premesis, etc.

You'd be surprised how people will act when they don't think aynone is looking or they won't get caught.

Myself, If I'm going to out that far (thinking of going to Big Bend National Park) I would be packing a long arm of some kind.

Hours away from town... Many miles up forest access trails in the Blue ridge Mountain highlands. No LEO around, no other people around sometimes for days. You have only yourself to rely on for protection.

    Great resource.

Statistically speaking, gun owners are more law abiding than the average citizen. I was planning a trip to Vegas when I did some research on their gun laws. Apparently Nevada does not reciprocate my Texas CHL. I've since put that trip on hold pending a way to deal with the law. I'll probably still carry through NM and AZ and just lock up my handgun when I get to NV.

I carry all of the time. On duty(obviously) and off duty because I can. Gotta love the 2nd Ammendment and House resolution 218 too bad California Legislators and Courts don't follow the supremacy clause of the US Constitution. I feel bad for their residents.

Well people tell me I live in the middle of though I’m only 20 minutes from the nearest town or two hours west of Washington DC…. But I actually feel safer far out in the woods then in the city and I grew up just 10 minutes outside of Wash. DC… And speaking of DC, they have had some of the most restrictive gun laws in this nation for many years (until the recent Supreme Court decision which the DC govt. still tries to ignore) and also one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation… And they blame the state of Virginia for this saying that states laws are too unrestrictive…. Go figure.,, In every state where concealed carry laws were enacted violent crime rates have gone down… And I’m betting the mortality rates of dirtbags have gone up though I don’t have those statistics…

To add to what he said, I've drawn down on 3 situations and have several times come to my door with my gun in hand, just to make sure it was there if needed. Yesterday at about 0630, I woke up to what sounded like someone trying beat in my door. The dog is going off and I roll out of bed with my weapon. I checked the peephole and all I was was a hand. I opened the door, and this lady was about 4 inches from me coming inside. I pushed her back with my left hand while bringing my weapon to a low ready, in case I had to muzzle strike or engage. Turns out she was some **** from the census bureau looking for my neighbor. you just never know with some people.

Plenty of reasons to have a gun in a place like that. I wouldn't be there without one. The frozen food aisle? Not so much.

Kennesaw Ga. law requires every household to own a gun for probably 20 years now. Crime rates have plummeted there.

I’d be willing to bet statistically though you are more likely to have need of self protection going out to your vehicle in the grocery store parking lot than way out in the woods… However my home is remote with no quick response by LEO and no one ever ventures up my driveway at night (or they shouldn’t be) so I always sleep better with my friend Sam Colt under my pillow… And of course my loyal pup at the foot of the bed…

Compliance with the law is voluntary… They are really just making a very good point… for the entire nation to see… I respect that… In Northern Virginia which is quite unlike the remainder of the state they have a one gun a month law… When I used to live there I interpreted that to mean you must purchase one gun a month… Perhaps I misinterpreted it a bit…
