As a background, my family came from the Philippines and we became permanent residents here in the USA on September 2002. I like guns and was always fascinated by them but never found the logic or need to carry them around for protection, after all this is America.

I was wrong, evil knows no boundries, time, a person's status, creed or race. Evil strikes when you least expect it. I was MMOB one afternoon, cleaning my car in the parking lot when 5 guys ( blacks) approached me, one drew a small pistol and demanded for money.

They took what I had ( a $10 bill). The perps started to talk amongst themselves saying they could get more if they take me to our apartment and get more cash. ( Maybe I look latino? thinking we keep hordes of cash?)

No way in hell they will do that since my wife and my two kids are there. I had no choice but to fight here and now! I managed to disarm the guy with the gun and started to punch and kick him. The second guy picked it up and when I broke off from the first guy, he pointed the pistol at me and at that moment (Holy Mother of god!!!) watched as my wife and kids image past before me. All I heard was an audible click and he started to fumble with the slide. (Holy sh_t!!!!) So he decided to pistol whip me instead. ( Bastard!!!) Still got the scar to prove it. I was bleeding from the left side of my head. It did not hurt ( at first) but it sure bleeds a lot. ( It took more than aspirin LOL, and to think the next day I have to sit down for my Nursing Licensure exam )

At that moment, the neighbors started to come out and saw what was going on. That lull of the moment I took advantage and I ran to our apartment and pounded on the door. My wife was horrified, My kids started to cry and we slammed the door shut. We called 911 and police response was within 3-5 minutes. (man with a gun call draws a more rapid response I guess)

This event opened my eyes. Now you asked, "has anything ever happend to you or someone you know where they actually had to use their gun?"
Do you really want to find yourself in a situation like mine where you wish you had the means to defend yourself but had no means at that moment? With my family's life at stake, at that time, I would sell my soul just to have the means to keep them safe.

Evil is very opportunistic, they prey on people who are helpless or have chosen to be helpless. My family now have chosen not to be victims. I carry concealed ( or open depending on circumstance) Virginia and Utah perrmits. A full size 1911, 8+1 L & L. 2 spare 8 round cobra tripp mags. Wife owns a Springfield XDM in 9 mm with 3 extra mags. ( I had other guns too but I lost it in a senseless boating accident:rolleyes:)

As of May 19, 2010, me and my family became American Citizens. God Bless America, God bless our Troops. I thank God for this country, the last beacon of true Freedom.

Now don't get me started about the Second Amendment, I have a thing or two for you, but thats another chapter. Peace Brother.:)

My post has descriptions that mentioned certain race. It is not intended to stereotype or anything. I described it as it is.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Well done sir! I'm glad that you fought back and made it out alive.

1911 cocked and locked: the ONLY way to carry a 1911 :D

I myself carry a G19, but to each his own :)

Powerful story! That's why I also carry a S & W military & police 40 compact. I always am prepared to save my life or possible save YOUR life if need be. BUT, I pray everyday, and in my prayers I ask that there never be a need for my firearm.

Spot on. Same here. No person should delight in taking one's life but in defense of self and of love ones we do what we need to do.

Bambooshoots, before I decided to get the XDM for my wife I was considering the G 19, great carry piece! Maybe I will get one one of these days. I like to experience purchasing and no longer required to show my green card because I'm an American Citizen now. :D

Its ironic that the deputy comissioner in charge of ICE is also saying that the law ispires racism adn is unjust when all it does is mirror FEDERAL laws that he is suppposed to support.

I live in Suprise, AZ!!! Small world. Anyways, I fully support the second amendment. It's not everyday you see someone carry openly around here, but they still do. Mostly people will conceal their weapon with a permit.

It might sound threatening to see someone carrying openly, but our crime rate is high, our vehicles are always getting stolen, and kidnappings are high, etc.

I personally own an AR-15, Glock .45, single barrel 20 gauge, and a 1911 .45 pistol. I use them recreationally, but also for security. For instance, recently we had about 6 cop cars surround our apartment complex, holding their own AR-15's looking for someone. Once I saw this, I grabbed my weapon and placed it next to me on my couch in case someone wants to break into my place to hide.

I'm happy for you you live there. I never regret living here. I am proud of being an American.

Keep in mind, evil does not pick any nationality, race, creed or status nor it recognizes any boundries. I pray that you will always be safe.

There are also far fewer people in Canada and as you just said violent crime is increasing... As lazaro said evil knows no boundry... Keeps safe up there in Canada... I feel safer always with my friend Sam Colt by my side.

Out here in north eastern West Virginia I'm about two hours west of Washington, DC... Here we have a very low violent crime rate; Wash., DC on the other hand has one of the highest nationwide. In WV just about every household has firearms and the law allows for permitted concealed carry, DC's laws are very restrictive and concealed carry is not permitted... This does not stop the gang bangers from carrying concealed though, only the honest citizens. Here in WV if you commit a violent crime your chances of meeting armed resistance are pretty great, hence a lower crime rate. In DC the average citizen is helpless against violent crime. If you were a bad guy and looking for a victim who would you choose, the redneck with the WV tags and an NRA sticker in the back window of his truck or the Volvo with DC tags and the Obama sticker on the bumper? Most criminals are not rocket scientist but it doesn’t take one to figure that scenario out…. Time and again when laws are passed allowing concealed carry the violent crime rate drops but you won’t see these statistics published in the liberal media…

An exact description of an opportunistic predator. BG are out there to make an easy buck. No way they will gamble preying on guy/gal who will not hesitate to plug them with high velocity projectiles. They will go for the easy ones.

Funny how the mention of the vehicle make is a factor how a BG profiles his victim.

I also have a CCW permit. To use a couple of cliches:

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

I carry when I camp in back coutry, ride my motorcycle, and most everywhere. The only time I do not is to and from work as our company will not allow a gun in the car when in the parking lot.

I know a buddy who was carrying in his back yard while raking leaves. A pitbull came through an open gate and charged him. He pulled out his .45 and put six, YES SIX, bullets in the dog before it stopped.

And I apprecaite your questions. They are thoughtful and polite with no attitude.

I carry everywhere but Church and work. My wife keeps one in the car and my daughter keeps one with her. I would rather carry and not need it than need it and not have one.
While in the shop in my back yard I have pistol. While in the garage I have pistol. I have no kids at home so all of my pistols are loaded and hot. There is one in every room of the house. No I do not live in a bad area. But as times get harder people seem to lose touch with their brains and think they can have what you have.

Like the song says My house is protected by God and a gun and if want to meet them then come on in....................
