I carry concealed a XD 45, never had to use it but it is a comforting thought knowing it is there if I ever need it.

A few reasons I do carry...

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.
The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Shooting of burglary suspect unjustified, family says

DENVER - Relatives of the teenager killed during an attempted burglary in Denver early Monday do not believe the shooting was justified.

They are not making any excuses for 17-year-old Marcus Duran, but question the actions of the homeowner.

"So he was doing wrong, why does he deserve to get shot in the head two, three times?" said Duran's godmother, Phyllis Chavez

The homeowner shot and killed Duran during an attempted burglary early Monday morning, Denver Police said.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said officers responded to a 911 call from a home in the 3100 block of Gaylord St. at 2:20 a.m. when they heard gunshots at a house across the street.

"Officers went to 3150 Gaylord Street and found one male who appeared to be suffering from a gun shot wound," Jackson said. "He was pronounced dead at the scene."

Police found Duran, lying on the porch. The coroner said he died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

Another suspect was taken into custody for attempted burglary while a third remained at-large.

The homeowner was taken into custody and later released. The Denver District Attorney's Office will determine if the shooting was justified under Colorado's "Make My Day" law, which allows people to use deadly force to protect themselves from intruders in their own homes.

"They are using the Make My Day Law, and it's not Make My Day if he was on the porch," said Duran's grandmother, Paula Gonzales.

^^well of course the family doesnt think the home owner defending himself was justified...it was that ladies grandson that got shot. but flip it around and if someone was breaking into that woman, Paula Gonzales's house, it would be a different story...

Yea... when you are half asleep and someone is trying to come in your door or window in the middle of the night do you ask "Hey are you here just to steal my stereo or do you intend to murder me and my family?" Do you really have the luxury to take the time to figure that out? When you break into someone else’s home you surrender your right to expect to be treated as a guest or just some mischievous teenager… I hope I am never faced with this situation as I would find it difficult to deal with taking a life in defense of myself or loved ones but the alternative is unacceptable. I feel sorry for all concerned, for the unfortunate homeowner that was forced to take this young mans life and for the young man's family. It is a sad story.

^^ several months back I had a guy on my porch jiggling my door handle trying to come in. I was around the corner in the hall with my AR ready to swing up and shoot if he made it in. Luckily for him he didnt make it in. Im guessin he was just a drunk at the wrong house but my heart was pounding for sure!

Just as a side note....it is still illegal in all states to "consume" alcohol while in the possession of a firearm. There is not a "legal limit" of alcohol like there is while driving. The charge is most often called "prohibited use of a firearm". Just a FYI for those whose states allow CCW when in a restaurant or bar. I agree however that most that have a CCW will be the last ones who abuse this privalege.
