The Tacoma has been in the family since it was new. At 230,000 miles and a 2.4L its gutless. I need to beef it up so I can do the speed limit on long road trips. engine swaps, superchargers, re-gearing, any suggestions? I want to know what work for you!

Wouldn't suggest a supercharger with that many miles. Cold air intake, exhaust may help with flow other than that you're looking for an engine swap. Re-gearing would help you if you were to have extra added weight.

First thing is to check the health of the engine by doing a compression and leakdown test.

If that is up to snuff, send off an oil sample for analysis and make sure nothing is coming unglued internally.

If all that is good, tell us about the condition of the rest of the truck, and modifications that have already been done.

    Nutshell.........

The truck could have issues that need attention. Or the driver may have too high a set of expectations. ;)

BTW, re-gearing does not make more power. It just allows the torque curve to be entered sooner. Or it can be a correction for bigger tires (which are part of the gearing equation) causing the truck to return to a stock-ish level of performance.
