So it's not a done deal or anything yet but man I had to take it in for a night and a day and see if it is really, really what I want and guys it drives so much smoother, so much crisper...

Yeah it's an old platform, yeah it's old tech but....if it ain't broke don't fix it...

I'm just posting here to make sure I don't make the same mistake twice. I want your opinions, even if you guys are just going to shit on me and tell me I'm crazy. This isn't about Toyota vs Nissan, it's not about any of that. It's about loving what you drive and having a smile on your face every time you drive it.

The transmission on this Nissan is an old 5-speed but it just shifts smoothly. I never even felt the shifts, smooth as butter. Whereas my Taco...where to start, the noticeable upshifts, the gear hunting, the weird-feeling downshifts...I just couldn't get used to it.

    Is it perfect? No.
    -Old ass interior.
-Power steering is no where near as nice as Tacoma.
-No more digital speedometer or info center (once you get used to it...)
    -Looks like a 2006 vehicle.
    -Key + separate fob...what is this 1989?

    Pros?
-Better suspension, rear diff lock, better tires...all the good stuff.
    -Sunroof, leather, better seating postion.
    -.....power seats.

But most of all I LOVE the driving characteristics, the truck-like torque, the non-retarded transmission.

I'm losing some money but the MSRP of this truck is normally around a few grand higher anyway. Nissan guys will pay my lease payout on the dot.

Just give me your honest two cents but don't shit on me too hard.

Hey to each their own. I traded in a Frontier for the Taco, and to me, there is no comparison - the Taco is better in pretty much every way, IMO.

Who cares what anyone here has to say?! It’s your money, your peace of mind and your enjoyability in a vehicle. Get what you like and enjoy. If it suits you better, then go for it. I personally cannot pay for something and look at it in my driveway if I’m unhappy with it. Do what is best for YOU.

Do what makes you happy man, I loved all my previous Nissans, every one of them and none ever gave me issues. If enough people feel the same way maybe Toyota will see too and fix this broken (at least for Toyota) generation.

    I'd call that "antiquated".

It still blows my mind how old the current Frontier is. I'm going to be 33 this year, and the current Frontier came out the year I graduated high school. lol

Personally, I think they are a good little truck.... I would find out about the frames breaking in half though. See if that's still an issue.

Between the two, I'm way happier I went with the Taco. If you are happier with the Nissan, it's your money. If I was happier with a Nissan, I'd go that way too.

I was going to buy one exactly because it's an old platform and most of the bugs have been worked out, aside from the evap canister clogging up.

I test drove a stick and an auto. The stick was too rubbery. The auto was fine. The main thing I couldn't get past was the seating position. If I
could have lowered it, I'd have been fine, but nope. The Tacoma seating might suck, but the Frontier was worse for my body size.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the truck; they're proven, durable, and not bad looking for their age.

Wife has a 05 pathfinder and we love it, aside from the teething issues of a new model yr which nissan took care of it has been a solid vehicle. Motor has 20 more horses than my 2012 tacoma, leather interior, rides better, etc. Yeah its old tech but your right to some extent, if it aint broke... Im not going to talk you out of the nissan, but I believe they have a re-design coming out next yr. Might be something to think about, but if they change a bunch stuff then your back to square one. They def have all bugs worked out now on the platform.

    Good luck

Totally but maybe that's what I need. I can keep driving the Taco and I mean it's still a nice truck...but I don't know. My feet weren't made for ECU controlled shifting.

Hey I get it. The very reason I got the Frontier was because I just wanted a basic truck (and it cost less than a Tacoma) - and it fit that role perfectly. I will say the truck never had a single issue.

This is going over way better than I imagined, lol. tbh I did some searching while there definitely is Frontier forum and all that...idk it just doesn't feel as big and as prolific as the Tacoma following. You guys have been rock solid since I first started posting. Everyone knows their shit and haven't encountered a lot of negativity.

Will definitely miss being a Taco owner if you know what I mean.

VQ engine is a beast, the 3.5 taco engine is like a dying pig compared to the VQ35 and VQ40, plus supercharged they're still reliable as all hell. Loved it in my Maximas and my Pathfinder

Too bad you didn't drive an MT Taco... I know you would have liked it WAY better than the AT Taco.

But it's your money. If you hate the Tacoma and like the Nissan, then get the Nissan!
