Sorry if this was answered already, but can you step/stand on the fender in front of the door?

Yes you can stand on it, even jump on it, but that would be kinda scary

Good, I like that approach. That's the fun in building something like this, you get to learn a lot (even it they're annoying lessons!). It'll be a good memory to look back at one day, regardless.

I made plenty of mistakes (and not cheap ones) building my last trailer. Also we finished it, used it like 3 times and immediately sold it. Still don't regret it. Some of those lessons will come in handy this go around and on future projects so I consider it a win.

So question, have you planned your first trip for it yet?

Im looking at this set thats 265/70 R16.. I calculate that to be 30.6" in diameter, but the pic the guy sent me is way off. What gives, is it just the angle?

That makes sense, I just don't want it to look too small. It is what it is. I'm going to try and pick these up, the guy lives nearby, asking $350 for all 4, 20k miles on them

Yeah looks like a slight bad angle, I'd agree with Joe and say they're likely ~29 inches. If I'm allowed to be honest, I think you'll be disappointed with those tires. I realize it's only a little smaller compared to the 265/75s (and their potential true diameter)...but with your starting point being 35's I think 29's will just disappoint you.

    What about these 2? https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/wto/d/2-used-tiresbfgoodrich-all/6501763126.html

and then this one for a spare: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/wto/d/r16-bfgoodrich-all-terrain/6528023848.html

Wouldn't it follow that if 31s are 29 edge to edge, 35s are ~33ish edge to edge? In either case it should just be a 4 inch difference. The trailer will drop 2 inches and i will gain 2 inches of clearanxs from the fender. When I am back at a computer im going to take a pic of my trailer and shrink the tires 12% in Photoshop and see what it looks like lol. I'm afraid that 33s won't give me the clearance im comfortable with... whereas I know 31s will have the trailer towable and ready to go in two weeks. If I buy 33s and its still not enough, I will have to rebuild the fender, or buy a 4th set of tires lol. And if i have to rebuild the fender, I'm going to rebuild it for 35s .

I'm pretty much prepared to be disappointed with how it looks, but I'd be more disappointed if I bought some that still didn't give enough clearance and then I had to figure out something else. I'm looking at 31s to hold me over till I have breathing room to fix it right

If comparing the same tire, yes. So many tire makes and models, that are of the same rated size, measure differently in real life. I've realized this is my experience of lowering cars and having to shop brands and models of tires to get proper fitment/clearance, even within the same rated size.

If you'll be ok with making it work for now, then that's a good deal and I wish you luck man!

True sizes between same "sizes" can vary drastically from manufacturer to manufacturer. For example some 255/85's can range from 32.5" to 34" when in concept they should be 33" new. And obviously in something like a mud terrain, the new size could be an inch or more bigger than when it is worn.
