Be sure to check the reverse circuit rating on the other vehicle. My other halfs eco-boost escape is running the 30w Philips HIR upgrade and she loves it.

Thanks for the tip, ill make sure to take a look tonight. The wife has a chevy sonic hatchback that uses the 921's. I had both our vehicles tinted and the only complaint she has is how dark everything is at night time, figured this would be the time to upgrade to something a little brighter

@crashnburn80 i have a question if you don’t mind. I did this reverse light using the Osram 35w bulbs linked somewhere in this thread, and I noticed when I go into or out of reverse the lights flash very brightly and then go into a considerably dimmer state. Any thoughts?

Are you judging by standing behind the truck, or the reverse camera?

Thats what I thought, it is the aperture/night mode adjusting on the camera. In oversimplified terms, camera comes on and thinks it is night time with large aperture for night vision mode, reverse lights kick on and the camera is washed out due to the massive increase in light causing the flash, it then immediately readjust closing the aperture to be closer to day mode due to excessive light so the dash picture is displayed reasonably.

Makes sense. I knew you’d have an answer. As soon as you asked the question, I smacked myself in the face cause I knew where you were going.

    Thanks man!

There is a scientific explanation for most everything, it is healthy to ask inquisitive questions to better understand something.

Crash, super glad I found these threads. They should come as a print out when you buy a Tacoma. Ordered LED reverse lights last night from Amazon but will be returning them in favor of some HIRs.

Just discovered this thread. I was actually happy with the FlashWolves in my 2nd Gen. Transferred them to my 4Runner, and they don't perform as well.

I've sometimes wondered if the reverse lights are actually designed to light the way behind the vehicle, or to serve only as an indicator to others nearby that the vehicle is reversing. I've seen several vehicles where the license plate bulbs illuminate more than the reverse lights. Maybe dependant on vehicle design? @crashnburn80

Stock. The goal isn’t to blind those following you with your brake/turn lights.

Stock reverse lights are more communication lights than highly functional illumination lights. As to the effectiveness of the LEDs it will be highly dependent on the reverse light housing design, since the blade LEDs do not at all replicate the incandescent light source the housing is designed for, so results can vary by vehicle. The HIRs will drastically outperform the LEDs. If there is a very small reverse light volume, I’d use the 30w Philips HIRs, which is what I did in our 2015 Escape.
