I’m so glad I found this write up. I’ve always had trouble backing into my driveway at night. I tried installing some leds last week and they were miserable. I just upgraded to these 35 HIR’s and man do they make a difference! One question though, I bent the prongs on the bulbs and also bent the tabs on the plug. The bulbs feel like they will stay in, but they do wobble around a bit inside the plug. Did others notice that as well?

Im not worried, if i was id just wrap some High temp Silicon tape around the bulb and socket. Or some hight temp heat shrink. I bomb down fire roads all the time, havnt had one fall out yet. Knock on wood. if it did. SO, fish out insert, wipe with IPA. back on the road.

Thanks. I'm not too worried about it. I gave it a good shaking and the bulb stayed in. I was just curious if others had experienced wobbly bulb syndrome.

There is a little play in the bulb mount, if you bend the prongs in an arch that is wider than the socket, so that the prongs need to be compressed to fit in, the play is minimized but still there. So some is expected.

Was able to get them in with a few pics. We have a dusk to Dawn light about 50yards away infront of the truck but still a huge diff. I did bend the prongs in the plug on each side ans mine seems to be pretty tight. Huge difference to me. Wish I could turn off that dusk to Dawn light but I’m pleased with them @Vzpatrick

this is with me standing in front of the license plate directly against the truck

As an electrician when I first started reading this post I thought gawd No!
Any electricians that have to maintain these halogen pin bulb lights will tell you how much they hate them in fixtures of any type.
The heat produced by halogen bulbs ( we can cook on them after all) causes all kinds of long term issues with the sockets.
The major issues we see is the high heat cycles taking the spring out of the metal clips that hold pins in the socket.
The second most common failure we see, and this is depending on the type of wire used is melted wiring that attaches to the socket.
In most cases the manufacturers know how much heat these will produce and make the sockets out of a porcelain to prevent melting of the sockets with a metal heat shield on the back.
But after thinking about this for a while this damage is usually only seen in fixtures that are on for many hours a day for many years and the bulb in most of these failures is facing down which is obviously not the position these sit in a truck.
Since this post is now 3 years old and the reverse lights should never be on that long I have since changed my thoughts on this mod.
Thanks for the great write up.

Wow looks great, I had my boss check them out at work and said they look like headlights on the back, the back up camera is a lot brighter also

I've got three of these in the box but just installed the Meso Total Tail Stage one. Anyone interested in buying my bulbs?

Thats a bummer. I suppose you could remove it and try to clean it with something like carb cleaner maybe and a small cone head brush. Results would be only mediocre though as I think you'd have a nearly impossible job to clean the reflector without opening up the assembly.

Just got 2 of the GY6.35 bulbs. One broke the glass around a pin while bending. The other is in. Big difference between the stock and these. I should have ordered 4 instead of just 2.

Redline custom leather shift and e-brake boot. VFTUNE Super Full Otto cycle, octane learning, premium fuel.
Installed Osram. Used emery cloth to create grip on pins, squeezed pins tight with a small steel pick. Slid in tight, and easy. No other modification to pins. 15 minute upgrade.
    Awesome view.
