Very nice build! Love the combo bed rack with swing out tire, great idea!

Thanks to you both... The bed rack setup came about due to a couple reasons... One I wanted to be able to carry the tire on the back end of the vehicle without extending my overall length beyond what was necessary. I also already had the CBI rear bumper and could have added the tire carrier to that but it seemed like a whole bunch of additional work since I already had plans to build the rack itself. I figured why not incorporate the two, have something different and structurally sound. The design also incorporates the bed rack being mounted to both the bed rail system and the rear bed bolt locations. The only drawback that I have noticed so far has to do with the space allowed for the tire and rotopaxs - really confined, mainly to allow room to open the swing away (without hitting the passenger side tail light). Its why I only have 1 gallon rotopaxs mounted side by side on the rear vs 2 gallon rotopaxs mounted front to back. Left just enough room to allow 35s to be mounted if I ever go up. It's still a work-in-progress.

Do you ever miss the tailgate? That's my only worry if I were to do something like this or a tiregate. I know I avoid that if I do a swing out with a bumper.. But ehh.

I honestly couldn't really answer that yet... I still am waiting to have a local shop fab up a piece of aluminum for a fold down table on the swing out. Once I have that I'm not sure if I'll miss my tailgate much. It's a bit strange not having one but it is nice being able to more easily access the deeper parts of the bed itself. Sure, I'll miss pulling up and quickly dropping the tailgate, cracking open a beer, and having an instant seat. But whatever...

Agreed. I've had these wheels since week 1 with the truck... I've always liked em and have wanted to spend money in other ways. But yeah you are right!

John did a nice job on the bedrack. He's always done clean work grant it, but usually it's cages.

EDIT: Not sure how long ago you had him fab up the rack, but I know that other Taco has been in the shop for a while.... anyways he does a BBQ for all his customers/friends first Saturday of December. Always a good time. I've gone the last several years.

John is a great guy! He fabricated the tool mount that I had for my shovel and axe prior to the bed rack project. He's been around a long time in the 4x4 world. Joy to work with for sure, especially when he has a picky anal client like me. Haha

PS: Yes that other Taco is still in the shop... It's funny seeing two silver 2008's parked next to each other, both with very different builds... Overland vs Racing

Spent yesterday doing a desert cleanup with a buddy north of Phoenix... Snapped this one during our break.

It's the smallest one... "1250" I think? The next size up seems too big for my truck and with the wind break set up towards the front end of the vehicle it works well w/ the tent.
