I have a 99 Tacoma base with about 196,000 miles.
The battery died recently, so I replaced the battery (under warranty), but it still died shortly after (2 days?). So I ordered an alternator (80A, on Amazon) and replaced it. [Aside: The new alternator was a bear to get into place - it seemed like it was about 1/32" too wide for the mount (pivot bolt). I wrestled with it much longer than wanted, but finally got it in.] Same result - dead battery even after an overnight charge on the battery. I gave up and took it to my local mechanic and they identified it as a faulty door switch (to the dome light). I am not savvy enough to have been able to trace the culprit...

I was glad that the alternator wasn't the issue.
