This has been a issue since 2016. Typical Toyota, just keep pumping out sub-par product at a premium price.

    Working on it ...
Not to change the subject ... but it is the frame rot/rust issue that boggles my mind. That has been going on for like 20 years now. One would’ve thought they would’ve undercoat it or taken some measures to prevent that by now. At least on the trucks destined to cold weather/snow/salt on the roads states.

Wow still hood problems? They’ve had this problem from 2016. Ridiculous they still can’t apply enough body seam sealer from the factory to hold the hood panels together. As for someone saying the tranny gets better, it does not. Perhaps you get a little more used to is but it will continue to shift and hunt for the gear the same as it does now.

The conclusion is toyota does nothing or as little as possible to remedy the real issues. Pretty sad

And that is why this will be my first & last Toyota most likely. Nothing says this is worth $35-45K when you sit & drive these trucks.

I’m with you on that. However this is my 3rd toyota and 2nd taco. The only thing I love about mine is the payment. And pretty much the only thing keeping me in it currently ATM. I’m just lucky I bought mine back in 2016 and worked at the dealer when I did. No way would I pay 45k for basically this same truck now.

I'm not sure why, but I thought all of the TRD models all came standard with the auto headlights? My 16 and 17 Tacomas both had the Premium and Tech package, so they had the auto headlights, but I thought all of the TRD models had that feature. Did that change recently with the different packages offered or has it always been that way? Just curious.

Tailgate key fits nicely in rear passenger door cubby, phone between e brake handle and console, if you don’t have one get the console insert

For sure 2018 & 2019 did not come with auto headlights with the lower tech package. Can't say about previous years as I have no direct experience but suspect they didn't either.

This is one of my favorite features. With the headlights or parking lights one, if you shut the truck off and open and close the door, the lights will shut off in 30sec. I think 30sec is the default and can be adjusted in the head unit. If you turn the lights on with the ignition off, they will turn off in 20min.

No goofy sun sensor to worry about.

So, it is a great combo of manual lights with a nice failsafe / convenience feature. Of course, this is how my non-auto headlight 2017 works. It should be the same with your 2020 other than automatic high beams, but you should test it out to verify.

@Fishnwiz, I ordered the console insert - thanks! And I'm finding that my iPhone almost lays perfectly flat over the cup holder and cubby opening next to the E-brake handle...

Eh, IDK about that. This truck was a major let down. Maybe I had too high of hopes for it. Newest vehicle I have owned & I was really excited about the purchase. Then it spent a lot of time at dealer getting fixed & the honeymoon started to end. Now I am ready for the divorce LOL. Sad thing is this truck could be so much better with a little effort from Toyota but they own the market so it will still sell with all its shortcomings so no point in making it the best it can be. All about profits.

I wasn't a fan of the automatic in these trucks . then again I hate everything with a auto .I'm old school manual all the way don't have to worry about stupid random shifting or lag .My lights turn on great with my left hand. we are so Spoiled with all these fancy gizmos keyless entry .. automatic lights … lane keep assist .. technology is just making us more lazy . soon people will be bitching about that the truck doesn't drive you lol .

Christ Almighty enough with the whining. If you focus on it you will drive yourself crazy. Put it in "S" mode and shift it yourself. :sadviolin::sadviolin::sadviolin::sadviolin::sadviolin:

Yep, I have the high beams set to Auto and I've just been leaving my lights on and letting the truck turn them off. All in all, that wasn't meant to be like a "don't buy the truck" moment, just pointing it out for other prospective truck buyers. I love this truck. It's my first pickup and my first brand new vehicle. Everything I've mentioned I was aware of (except the damn seam sealer) and nothing I am griping about is making me regret my decision. Except the damn seam sealer. Like what the truck Toyota...the dealer also had like 5 days before I actually took delivery of the truck and I am surprised that nobody noticed it.

Other than the auto high beams, I do the same. We've have / had cars with auto headlights and I actually prefer this setup. That's just me though.

The hood glue is weird. It was a pretty big issue for the early non-Skewp hoods. 2016 and 2017s. It is surprising to hear about it again, but it is an easy fix.

I had a head scratcher on my side. One of my doors was squeaking when hitting bumps. I fixed at home after finding out that they misinstalled the panel at the factory. One of the push pins was crushed and not in its hole. Sometimes, it is the simple stuff that gets by.

I've thought about it, but I'm waiting to see what the official release of OVTune 2.0 does for me first. :)
