Had my transmission replaced and know its leaking fluid

Wanted to get some opinoins on this. I had the transmission replaced about 2,000 miles ago and i noticed a spot of fluid (red) on the garage floor about the size of a basketball. The shop said they are not sure if its the transmission or the transfer case thats leaking. They said its a big job to remove it to find out whats leaking. They will cover it if its the transmission but if its the transfer case i am resposible. Is the transfer case fluid red? I thougt it was more like motor oil color.

 

Thats what i thought.

 

transfer case oil could be red as some brands of gear oil is red

Take off fill bolt on t-case

and stick a Q-tip in and fetch
some oil, see what color it is. probably honey but double-check

if it is not red, go get yer tranny fixed again

 

Thats a great idea. Its at the shop now so I wont be able to do that.
