Never felt the difference between 87 or 89 in my 2nd gen 4.0. 3rd fill up with my ( new to me) 2017 3.5. and filled it with 89 octane. literally feels like a different ( better truck)

What feels different? Was it knocking before? Can't imagine a brand new truck would have problems with knock.

Used 2017 62,000 miles. No knock previously, just seems to get up and go better ( seat dyno)??

The only difference between the octanes is the resistance to premature detonation. If it wasn't knocking then it's likely just a miscalibrated butt-dyno

It's in your head, countless threads that have disproved any advantage to higher octane fuel with this engine. I know this was a heated debate with the Taco Tic for 2nd gens so I get your thought process.

If you think that it feels better with 89, and the nominal additional cost does not bother you... Run the 89.

I have run 93 in my truck almost exclusively for about 40k miles. It absolutely runs smoother on premium. My truck has a low rpm miss and on 87 it is very noticeable. I do not notice any advantage as far as power or mpg go, strictly for how the engine runs. If I mix in a tank of 87, depending on how much fuel is in my tank, it runs fine, but if I run multiple tanks of 87 you absolutely can feel a difference.

It's been established by OVTune that the V6 runs at the ragged edge of combustion performance with 87 octane on the stock tune. With higher octane there is more margins, it runs smoother and may make little more power depending on how much advance the ECU can get.

    ...stuff
Should we fire up the debate about how 89 is a pointless fuel to get?

Gas stations receive 87 and 91 octane fuel Only (unless you live in those states that still sell 85). 89 is just 87 and 91 blended together at the pump. The weights and measures cert is for the pump delivering the correct amount of fuel, not that the blend is done properly.

    Discuss.

Higher octane does not mean more power in the fuel, fact. Some people believe that they get more power out of 89/91 I suppose, doesnt make it true.
