All good. My mileage read out is about .2 mpg optimistic, pretty accurate.

As far as the soot. its only when trying to run their 92 blend, 87 seems to burn very clean, no black residue at all. Premium does nothing to increase performance in my truck, just the opposite. Gotta be all mental with some that think it does, that more is better.

Or some that think it doesn't...

If one is thought to be true, surely the other can be as well.

I'm convinced no two of these trucks are the same, it's like we are driving some bespoke English car built in someones backyard vs. a couple of factories.

    A few.
Its accurate with a built in reserve. Ive gone 15-20 more miles after it his zero a couple times and still had 1 - 1 1/2 gallons left in the tank

I don't consider it accurate. I can drive on the interstate, cruise control set, with it saying 100 miles to empty, and 90 miles later it'll be at 0. With all of the inputs for that display, you'd think it would be the most accurate, but it just isn't. It's only good to let you know when you need to get gas.

i used to purchase 87 mainly from a shell station because it was one of the least expensive and was easy to get in and out of.

within the last month or so my credit card company started offering cash back from chevron so it made sense to purchase it there (i pay the balance in full each month so there is no interest charge). i put in 87 and there is a noticeable difference and improvement in how my truck starts and runs. much better with chevron fuel than shell. ????

i can't say i ever noticed a difference in any other vehicle i owned and where i purchased fuel.

I've claimed the same for months after seeing how done on performance my buddies 2019 trd was compared to my year newer sr5. These truck can't be all tuned the same. Seems a number of them just run better than others, and on 87 grade gas.

Start putting ethanol-free gas in it. It will run like a different truck.

Idk, my trucks addicted to the ethanol in the gas here. It'd probably get the dt's if i did that.

Ethanol free gas is hard to find in certain regions.

It is, and it's frequently only available in premium. I still use it for the lack of water draw and less corrosion for seals. The better MPG is just softens the blow a little.

It's also less of a carbon footprint burning straight gas than ethanol, too. The corn doesn't even do what it was "intended" to do.

Ethanol adds octane. This isn't exact number wise, but if you add 10% octane to an 84 blend, you get 87. From what I remember it's about 3 octane. Also, lowers fuel mileage by 10% lol.

You might want to change the word “want”. Maybe “need”. Don’t believe me. Call the Toyota dealer in Cheyenne. See what they tell you about the 85 octane gas that you are telling everyone they “want”. I’m a nutshell if your truck is under warranty use a minimum of 87 like the frickin manual says. Or listen to bs and that’s what your truck becomes. The thinner air helps prevent detonation and knocking at altitude but the computer still checks the octane rating. Running carbs no problem.

I have always wondered if the octane rating was reversed if people would still think that higher octane was still better. Of course they would. Octane along with Premium, Super, Supremium, Ultra, etc are some of the greatest marketing tools of all time. People literally waste money on the marketing.

Dude, people are transferring money on apps or using prepaid gift cards to pay scammers who are telling them there is a warrant out for missing jury duty. A fool and his money are soon parted, become a thing for a reason. It's pure laziness, and it's rampant. If an "expert" says it then it must be true. Just look at the events of 2020 for proof. People are dumb.

Could that be the reason my trucks runs so well on E10 87? Can't tell any difference with E10 89 grade, but when going to E10 92, the truck will run worse. All fuel grades in our tri state area have 10% ethanol.
