Went to start the truck this morning at 4:00 and almost didn't make it. Also, after work, same thing. Ended up just buying a Duralast Gold 27F. I've had good luck in the past with AutoZone batteries. At least now I'll be able to get to work in the AM.

Yeah, I know, the factory battery was probably under warranty but I didn't wanna hassle with the 40 mile drive to the dealer plus they had no service spots available till Saturday so how do I make sure I can get to work Thur and Fri?

Anyone else replace a battery at 5k miles?

Take in the dead one for warranty replacement anyway and have a spare.

I've replaced batteries in vehicles dropped off still in the transport wrapping.

Everything fails, you had bad luck, and its unfortunate you had to spend your own money to correct it. I would have warrantied it for you :)

I have the most issues with highlander batteries, the Tacoma's batteries are fairly stout.

Actually if you have the receipt you can mail it to Toyota Corp and get reimbursed because you were unable to get to the Dealer.

I already turned it in for the core. I have nowhere to keep a spare battery (gotta love apartment living!). I would be interested in finding out if Toyota corporate would reimburse me though.

2012 with 55,000. Original battery working fine.
I would attempt to get a refund from Toyota as well. Sounds like you just got unlucky with a lemon battery.

It's possible the battery charge was completely drained some time between when the truck left the factory and you taking delivery. Could've happened during transport, on the TSS Edition port modification line, or at the dealer.

Just wanted to update... Called Toyota corporate today and explained the issue. They requested that I fax over my receipt and proof of ownership to them, and they will reimburse 100% of the battery cost. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Are you in a hot area, ie Ariz/New Mex/Nev/Tex ?

No, not especially hot. Oklahoma. It does get warm in the summer time but nothing like the desert where I used to live.

I had 7 years and 155k miles on my 4runner when I sold it with the original Panasonic battery, which tested perfectly. New Tacoma has a different battery.
