Hagerty Insurance

I have a full-time work vehicle so my new-to-me 2001 Tacoma will only be used for local errands on the weekends and some camping trips. We take my wife's car for most of our longer drives. The Taco will likely see less than 5000 miles a year. Does anyone use Hagerty Insurance for their 1st gen? Any experience with claims?

 

No experience with Hagerty, but I would just go with Progressive insurance.

 

I think of Hagerty as specialty insurance. I'd talk to Hagerty if I had a cherry Highland Green 1968 Ford Mustang GT (Steve McQueen's car). Otherwise: GEICO, State Farm etc.

 

I have Hagerty for my 1971 and 1959 vehicles that are hardly ever drive. I was surprised that the Tacoma qualified with them. That is why I was wondering if anyone had experience using them in this type of circumstance. Cost is about half of what my regular insurance is.

 

Nationwide ins.co. gave me a very low rate after plugging their tracker into the OBD Port for 30 days.
Less than 3k miles driven annually

 

I assume that OBD reader records speed, braking, etc?

 

It would be interesting to know what Hagarty does in the case where repair cost are equal to or greater that the kelley blue book value of the truck.

All this advice to go with a standard insurance company is kind of flawed thinking, especially with any kind of comprehensive and collision coverage. They would just as soon total it out which usually ends up being a very low value.

 

I have hagerty on my gtr. No claims they just take my money like a normal insurer.

 

So what type of policy is it? Is it based on your stated value of the GTR or is it placed on the market value/bluebook?

 

A value I stated as I use it on the track and drive it on the road.

 

That's kind of what i was thinking. Not sure if these trucks are a "classic" or not, but they seem to be getting into that range where people don't just want to total them in the case of an accident like I would my wife's CRV.

 

I got a quote from them for my Exige many years ago and AAA ended up being cheaper. Oh yeah, it was insures based on stated value as well.

 

I'm using Hagerty for a 99 M-Roadster (12k miles) that just sits in my garage with a trickle charger. Insured based on stated value (I think I said >$40k at the time).

 

Just curious so correct me if I’m wrong. Isn’t Hagerty just total loss insurance and pays out on an agreed amount. Or do they provide also comp/collision/liability also?
