No, but you can now get a real back bumper made of steel

Once again proof that crappy Hondas cause ALL car crashes!!

    Glad you are ok OP!

Based on the plate I assume you are in CA. End thread to all of those that are preaching dreams of Diminished Value fat checks. Not gonna happen in CA...

Everyone was not injured! (surprisingly, and thankfully, for the Acura)

Forgive my naive-ness, but is that actually possible? I thought body shops could only restore what was damaged

Why would you say that? Does being in CA mean that part of the DV check goes to some random fund that was passed by our governor?

I actually just filed a claim for DV and have my hopes for a good amount (~1k).

I’ve had shops install after market parts. They sent the insurance company a quote for R&R factory parts, labor and used the money to buy after market parts. I’ve also had them leave a bumper off when I picked it up. They wrote me a check for the remainder (cost of paint, part, and labor not done)(the bumper) and I did everything at home.

Yes it's possible, you need a entire new rear bumper. Go get a couple of estimates and you will be amazed how much that OEM plastic pos costs to replace. Talk to the shop thats going to fix it and the adjuster to just fix everything but that part and take the money to get a aftermarket (no one wants to run into) steel ass.

I’m in TX and got a DV check for $2500 when my truck was in a minor wreck a couple years ago. I have a 2014 4 door short bed 4x4. Fast forward to a couple months ago and it was totaled from driving in flood water, insurance paid me $30k. I drove that truck for 5 years and paid only $1500. Bought it from insurance company for $9k and it’s just as good as ever.

A friend from work was hit like you were, probably less damage. His truck was totaled from it due to bent frame.

The way you do it is you get estimates from body shops to repair the damage using OEM parts. You’ll be surprised how much all that shit costs. You tell your insurance that you’ll take a payout for the agreed amount of the repair and you’ll take care of it yourself. You’re then not obligated to complete the repair but can take the cash and buy yourself an aftermarket bumper. This is of course dependent on there not being much damage beneath the truck or the frame because that’s something you’ll want to get fixed even if you go for the aftermarket bumper. If the damage is isolated to the bumper itself, you can just unbolt it and throw on the new bumper.

And you'll be the one to cut my bumper and install the steel right? :D

You got my number, feel free to reach out man. Many have taken the payout successfully and gotten aftermarket upgrades with it. I’ve never done it myself but I’m waiting for that love tap (hopefully they have insurance next time).
