    Hi TW Friends,

Looking for some advice. My 2017 SR5 DCSB 2WD with 103k miles was beat up by a recent hail storm. Insurance has estimated the damage at $12,000. Primarily the hood and roof are destroyed, with the front quarter panels also beat up. Lessdings on the sides, but still are some. Besides the hail damage, the truck is in really good shape.

I’m considering getting the damage repaired. Or was thinking about going to a dealership to see if they will take it as a trade along with the insurance money to go towards a DCSB TRD Off Road. Would a dealership be interested in it? Any thoughts as if they would give me enough in trade, plus the insurance money, to make it worthwhile?

I’m also interested in waiting for a 2024, but that may take too long.

    Thanks!

    I'd take the $12k + dealer offerings ( or possible private sale ) and buy a 2023.

I would NOT buy a 2024 unless I did it with your money.

It's the first-year coming off a new-line and "there will be issues".
You can take that statement to the bank and draw interest on it.

Bummer! I've had that happen to a car!

I'd be surprised if a dealer offered you much for it, even took it? For sure get it repaired, and then see how much you can sell it or trade it, if it's time to move on.

Just before covid I was going to get rid of a 2006 Frontier NISMO that was about to get the SMOD. Then hail and it really would have hurt the value. So I replaced the tranny and got a few more years out of it. Finally made me paranoid so when a clean 2013 Tacoma with only 100K on it showed up locally I limped the Nissan into town and got the Tacoma. I was even surprised the took the Frontier on trade considering dents, dings, bad paint, check engine light and all.

    Take the insurance money
Get a PDR guy to remove whatever dents he can.
Pocket the rest of the $$ and move on, so what if u got some dings…

    Work in progress...
Find a hood in a salvage yard. Have the roof repaired by the dent removal guy, best they can. Put the left over cash in the bank. Drive that truck for another year or two until you can get the 2025 that you really want. Ya get the 2023 and when 24's are crawling around the mall you are going to be wishing Ya waited.

    Like Captainbart 45 said.
Maybe see what the insurance co will pay for a cash settlement.
I live in a hailstorm area and there are shops that do hail dent repair without cutting, filling, painting etc.
There may be a shop near you that can do the repair to most of the damage that you can live with and pocket some cash.

Very similar boat here, I'll be fixing the hood and soldiering on. Its already got dents and dings elsewhere and my roof rack hides the roof anyway.

You could get a brand new truck and get caught the next day on a hailstorm again. Season is just cranking up.

Take the $12K, drive to Vegas and spend it on Hookers and Blow.

Take the insurance money and see what a PDR guy can do. At 100k miles I’d be open to having a less than perfect hood and roof if I could get that $$.

I'm just up north a bit and I was spared...sorry about the loss, but like mentioned above, I'd take the cash.

I know this sounds really dumb, but get one of those "pops-a-dent" glue gun dent pullers. I got one for hail damage to my rav4 and kia soul (lease) and between the dent puller and letting them sit in the sun, 90% of the dents were gone and I pocketed all the insurance cash.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Take the cash and drive it as is until the f’n wheels fall off it.
