Bought a 2019 TRD Sport double cab a few weeks ago. While waxing it over the weekend I found 12-15 dime sized dents in the roof and 3 barely noticeable dents on the hood. We don’t really get hail around here so it had to have happened while on another lot. Then today I find a few damp spots under the rear seats. I’m pissed! How’s that for a first post?

Yep. I know, shame on me for not seeing the dents. No way I could have known it was leaking though.

Go see your dealer, insurance, body shop. Small dents can be pulled in minutes with no damage to the paint. A water leak should be covered in your warranty. They may take care of the dents for you as well.

that sucks. but 12 DIME SIZE dents. that's pretty hard to miss. a dime is nearly 3/4 wide, so while that's sucks that one is definitely on you. the water leak is a whole other issue. hope you can work something out with the dealer on the dents but you know theyre gonna say no way they were there when you bought it. ugh!!!!

First off, sorry to hear. But Wtheck? I thought they'd fixed the 3rd like brake leak since the 18 model... You are still under warranty, let them fix the leakage problem.

Update. I’m asking the dealership to replace the truck. Waiting on a call from the general manager. Spoke to the title clerk this morning and it hasn’t been titled yet. She agreed to halt the process until I’ve resolved the problem. I’m not settling for a repair.

Good luck, that would be great customer service on their part. That’s for sure. Keep us posted.

Just curious , do you know how long the dealer had the truck and was there hail in the area in that time . You could go down and check the roofs on their lot and If you find any it might help your case .

Where did you buy it? Are you sure they didn't get hail recently? It can be very localized in a storm.

Excellent, stay the course. I would only settle if they could "Dent Pro" all of the dents, fix the leak and refund me at least $5k.

When hail damage hits a dealer they will pay out of pocket to have PDR teams come out and fix the whole lot. Many times these PDR guys are poorly trained due to being contract hires. Since the dealers will pay out of pocket instead of going with their insurance, they dont have to claim the vehicles were damaged. They would of had to remove the headliner to do any dents on the roof. If you check the pillars for missing clips (white pop clips) There will be the most missing clips on the rear pillars as they are the hardest to get back into the truck without removing the rear seats. There will also be push marks on the underside of where the dents are aswell as hook pulls where they put a hook into a hole and use it as leverage to push the dents out.

My guess is that this truck was hail damaged, then dealer traded to another state. This washes the selling dealer of responsibility.

I’ll try to answer a few questions. I’m not sure what dealership the truck originally came from. I don’t know of any hail in this area in years. It’s not common here and when we get hail it’s small. General manager called back after a lengthy discussion where I didn’t feel I was getting anywhere. He’s offered to take the truck back on a trade, giving me what I paid and selling me another of the same truck at the same price and financing. Told him I’d give him an answer tomorrow but it sounds like I’ll be getting a new, new truck!

If you don't think you will be happy with the current truck I would take them up on the offer.
