Show the mechanic this post and he'll be laughing so hard he'll probably feel bad for you and change your oil for free while he's got the truck.
Nice post, I'm giving rep for this "How to"

Edit: Nevermind I realized you put the old tranny fluid back in... (to the coolant)

    Question:
When you realized that your drained the tranny fluid instead of the oil, you said you then filled the coolant system with tranny fluid?
If you were attempting an oil change, why did you have tranny fluid on hand?
Tell me you didn't you drive to the store to get it with no fluid in the tranny?

Even worse, Hardcore...I believe he poured the tranny fluid from the drain pan into the coolant fill!

I'm sorry but my stomach seriously hurts right now! I just laughed my ass off. I rep'd you because it was at your expense and I feel bad.

I also give you credit for trying to fix your mistake without researching ANYTHING! Definitely tow it to the shop and have them fix you up. Shouldn't cost you too much but lesson learned. I am no mechanic but I research everything before venturing into uncharted water.

Nope! Second times the charm it seems. Drained it. Slapped a new filter on and filled it up again.

And BTW for all you first timers.

NOT ENGINE OIL! (Nor is it coolant)

I just want to know how you decided to put the tranny fluid back in where you did. I can see how you could mistake the tranny plug for the oil plug if you dont know what your tranny looks like from under the truck. But really how did you decide on where to pour it back in?

Yeah, I didn't realise though that you don't have a skid plate covering your oil pan. :(

I figured the tranny pan would be harder to find than the oil pan, and when I couldn't find another drain plug I figured I had the right one. (I mean, who drains their tranny fluid? BTW, that's rhetorical you asshats)

As for pouring it back in, I was like, shit it's pink. Let's start looking for more pink fluid in my vehicle. I thought the radiator fluid would be green so imagine my delight when I found an easy to pour spout with pink fluid inside! JOY!

After I filled it to the fucking brim, I realised, hey is this the right spout? Did I drain tranny fluid instead of coolant instead of oil?

    Yup.

Isn't that the truth. However I don't think it'll do so well when it starts smoking from the heat.

This has been a great thread!:D
Reminds me of a time when I changed the oil on my Taco for the first time, as I was refilling the crankcase, I noticed a puddle starting to appear at my feet... Upon further inspection (under my truck) I noticed a bright shiny bolt (aka drain plug) still waiting to be installed back into the pan!
Did I mention it spilled all over my new concrete driveway?!:smack:
Called the wife who was still at work and asked her to stop by store to get me some oil so I could have my truck back. (I told her I didn't buy enough to refill and needed more)

I agree this could happen to some people. (I'm not one of them.) I have sen my father do oil changes dozens of times.

You can do better next time.
