Looking into getting a ham radio for my truck. Wondering what you guys are running in your builds? Also wondering what you would recommend for good bang for buck setup.

It’s pretty easy. All the questions are available online

    https://hamexam.org/

I took one of the classes and they basically just go through all the questions and answers..

It kinda depends on who you want to talk to. The more you cram into a radio, the more expensive they get.

I've got a 2m Kenwood and thats good enough for now, and was only $75 used.

What are you looking to use it for?

I posted installation of my ham radio. Super simple, lots of options.

You have a ton of options for the radio/antenna - it really depends if you want budget or high end. Even budget, like a Baofeng, is pretty decent........

edit: i installed a yaesu that is about 25 years old and still running great.

I was talking el cheapo for 2m/440. If you want to talk long distance, you will have to go HF and that does get pricey very quick.
